I'm so excited for this launch, and incredibly proud of the work @cwetzel31 and @basketballvalue have put into this.
I'm really looking forward to how we can contribute to the sport of volleyball.
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Evollve!
Our goal at Evollve is to provide the volleyball community with consistent, reliable, and easily accessible data and analysis.
Check it out at evollve.net!
I need to know where this ball would have ended up if KAT hadn't tipped it. Because this freeze frame looks like a Castle layup/dunk for the win.
Would be a fun physics exercise for anyone with access to the tracking data.
Top playoff games by excitement index, which uses KL-divergence to quantify play to play win probability shifts.
Under the old version of the index, last night's game would have ranked #19 instead of #3. Another good illustration of why the new approach is better.
The Thunder didn’t play like the Celtics, and the Celtics didn’t play like Nuggets, and the Nuggets didn’t play the Warriors, and the Warriors didn’t play like the Bucks. If anything, the lesson from the playoffs is that there isn’t a lesson from the playoffs. Find your own path

Clutch Win Probability Added leaderboard for the 1st four games of the 2026 NBA Finals.
This counts all potential clutch plays - field goals, free throws, rebounds, turnovers, steals, blocks, and assists.
Inspired by 82-0, I built a game that combines bball knowledge about historical players and their impact metrics, skill via lifeline buttons you can use to draft a better team, and additional bonuses for picking more balanced lineups.
There's a leaderboard for the best teams. You have to score above 90th percentile to get 6 rings. Let me know what you think!
Visiting Jacob Bernoulli’s tomb in Basel.
He loved the logarithmic spiral because of its self similarity property. No matter how much you zoom out it looks the same.
The epitaph reads “EADEM MUTATA RESURGO”, meaning “Although changed, I will rise again the same”.
Bernoulli specifically requested this epitaph along with an engraved logarithmic spiral to go with it for his tomb.
Unfortunately the engraver misunderstood (or didn’t know what a logarithmic spiral was) and produced an Archimedean spiral instead.
But the post also contains a chart showing what situations this new measure of excitement considers more "exciting".
For example, going from 5% win probability to 15% win probability (see bottom left of chart) is a much bigger deal under the new measure.
Funniest sports movie trope (I just watched F1): announcer as de facto exposition - over explaining everything that is happening so the audience doesn’t get lost.
Are they announcing to the crowd at the game/race? Is this for the television broadcast? Radio? It is never clear.
VB peeps-A challenge w/ growing TV opportunities for VB is the unpredictability of match length. A 5 set match vs a 3 set match might be over an hr difference.
What ideas do u have to keep the integrity of game, but provide a more consistent timeframe? Put ideas in the comments
OK I did it. I tracked over 1,000 shots for SGA, Brunson, Harden, Spida and Wemby in the playoffs. Here's how often they fell: sports.yahoo.com/nba/article…
