Thank you @ukindrc for hosting a crucial discussion on investment in #ConflictPrevention and #peacebuilding in the #DRC, with our ED Nic Hailey. Preventing violence rather than bearing its costs is even more necessary now, with conflict on the rise and resources dwindling.

Transformative change starts with empowering youth. With our partners, we're supporting young peace ambassadors in Ituri and Beni, #DRC. Through the #EU-funded Nashiriki social cohesion project, these young leaders build collective #peace and prosperity for their communities.
"We grew up in division, but do not want to stay in it." says Virginie who as other young people from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) refuses to be just spectators. As young peace ambassadors, supported by the #EU, they take action to reconcile communities in Ituri & North Kivu regions of DRC that have been fractured for too long. The project aims to contribute to stabilisation & peace consolidation efforts through the promotion of social cohesion for communities affected by conflicts in Ituri & North Kivu regions. This is #EUForeignPolicy in action! #Youth4Peace

The intl #development system is leaving people in conflict-affected places behind. It’s time for a greater focus on #ConflictPrevention to stop more humanitarian crises from unfolding. ⬇️Listen to evidence from our Executive Director Nic Hailey in the UK parliament's @CommonsIDC
With extreme poverty increasingly concentrated in conflict-affected states and regions, Nic Hailey, Executive director at International Alert, argued that international development needs to focus much more on conflict prevention.
