Flying Officer Joseph Cherkinsky was killed alongside three fellow Canadian airmen when their Wellington bomber crashed during a training flight in 1943.
His brother, Sgt Arthur Cherkinsky, was killed on a bombing raid and is buried in the Netherlands.

It would have been my dad’s 100th birthday today.
The photo* was taken inside his Avro Lincoln (Lanc mk5) flying from RAF Scampton to RAF Shallufa (1948).
He would be devastated with what’s happening to our great country, particularly as a lifelong Labour supporter.

33 bombers lost (6.2 per cent).
