It would have been my dad’s 100th birthday today. The photo* was taken inside his Avro Lincoln (Lanc mk5) flying from RAF Scampton to RAF Shallufa (1948). He would be devastated with what’s happening to our great country, particularly as a lifelong Labour supporter. *Our old, faded black and white photo was coloured and so well enhanced by grok]

A packed house @IntBCC in Lincoln last night for my talk on Bomber Command’s gardening operations during the Second World War. It was fantastic to meet so many readers & podcast listeners in person—thank you to everyone who came along, & thanks to the Centre for hosting.

My Grandfather (Frank Saunders), having completed his Air Observer training at RAF South Carlton in 1918. He's the good looking chap on the right. I guess I'll never know who the pilot on the left was, but no doubt they flew together #FWW @RAFMUSEUM #RAF @IntBCC
