If what we were doing to cows, pigs, deer, and elk we were instead doing to dogs and cats, it would in fact be considered animal cruelty. IP28 is about ending the intentional killing of animals, regardless of species.

Has Oregon become a testing ground for bad ideas? Measure 110 sounded good. Now we’re being asked to consider another ballot measure with a great title and promises of good intentions.

IP28 protects animals from being intentionally injured, killed, and forcibly bred. Yes, that is protection. You might not want to protect them from those things, but don't pretend it isn't protection.
Initiative Petition 28 (IP28), also known as the People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions (PEACE) Act, is being promoted as an animal-protection measure, but its practical effect would be a sweeping assault on rural life, food production, property rights, and the responsible stewardship of God’s creation.

Abolishing the system of killing animals is exactly what our campaign is trying to do in Oregon with IP28. If we were killing our companion animals, we'd call it abuse. Let's consider it abuse even when we're talking about pigs, cows, primates, elk, and all other animals.
The way we torture pigs is a sin. We can afford to pay a little more for one kind of food in order to not torture hundreds of millions of these poor animals.

Could rats soon have better access to birth control than women? Well, let's hope everyone can have access! NY is testing a pilot program that is more humane for everyone and for the sake of all animals, we hope this becomes the norm and all rodenticides and traps are banned.

26 states have citizen-initiated ballots/referenda.
If citizens propose a law and collect enough signatures, their idea can be placed on next election's ballot for everyone to consider.

I have seen animals in the moments before slaughter - shuddering as they await the blade. And that will NEVER be ok. Even one violent death is one too many.
We should say this. Because it's in our hearts. Because it's true. And because heartfelt truths can change everything.

IP28 would remove the exemptions among Oregon's animal cruelty laws, making it so anything we can't do to our companions (such as slaughtering, experimenting, hunting, and inseminating them) would also be banned for all animals statewide. Visit yesonip28.org for more.

We might not post as often, but we've been hard at work collecting signatures! After only three weeks into our new petitioning cycle, we collected over 10,000 signatures. With 23 months remaining, we're confident 2026 will be the year animal liberation is on the ballot in Oregon.
