If what we were doing to cows, pigs, deer, and elk we were instead doing to dogs and cats, it would in fact be considered animal cruelty. IP28 is about ending the intentional killing of animals, regardless of species.
Has Oregon become a testing ground for bad ideas? Measure 110 sounded good. Now we’re being asked to consider another ballot measure with a great title and promises of good intentions. Before we vote on any measure, maybe we should ask a simple question: What’s really in it? Watch the video and let me know your thoughts in the comments. #IP28 #ORPol #ORLeg

I would sign that petition if I lived there. Excellent. We need to stop victimizing others and being racist (caring only about the "human race.")

Has the world (or at least Oregon) gone mad? If animal agriculture doesn’t get legal exemptions from animal cruelty and bestiality laws it won’t be able to continue! 🤯 Do you really want a world without slaughterhouses? 😡
Many don't know, but we're 4th-gen Oregonians--& since 1981, our family has peacefully farmed tens of thousands of dogs for meat. Yet Initiative Petition 28 is threatening our very livelihood. #noip28

Do you know what species you’re eating for lunch? Not “chicken”—which chicken? What kind? Did you know there are dozens of breeds, each with different temperaments? currentaffairs.org/news/why-…

"Abuse one animal, and you can be charged with a felony; abuse a million, and you have a business model." The animal exploitation industries are exempt from our cruelty laws. It's time we remove those exemptions. #yesonip3 nytimes.com/2023/04/15/opini…

You can just say you support killing animals and leave it at that, but maybe calling our chief petitioner a freak is easier than defending killing animals.
Portland-based activist David Michelson 28 years old, born in Denver, Colorado is behind IP28 😂👍 what a fuckin freak! Hey crazy eyes go back to Colorado. We WILL continue to hunt fish trap ranch and breed livestock in Oregon that’s what we do here . Fck you you liberal freak!

IP28 protects animals from being intentionally injured, killed, and forcibly bred. Yes, that is protection. You might not want to protect them from those things, but don't pretend it isn't protection.
Initiative Petition 28 (IP28), also known as the People for the Elimination of Animal Cruelty Exemptions (PEACE) Act, is being promoted as an animal-protection measure, but its practical effect would be a sweeping assault on rural life, food production, property rights, and the responsible stewardship of God’s creation.

Abolishing the system of killing animals is exactly what our campaign is trying to do in Oregon with IP28. If we were killing our companion animals, we'd call it abuse. Let's consider it abuse even when we're talking about pigs, cows, primates, elk, and all other animals.
The way we torture pigs is a sin. We can afford to pay a little more for one kind of food in order to not torture hundreds of millions of these poor animals. noahpinion.blog/p/the-way-we…

Grateful that our campaign was included in this special edition! One of the questions our campaign puts forward is "Why not just ban killing animals?" Check out this issue for our perspective and if you're curious to learn more about our campaign, go to yesonip28.org
Issue 55 is here! It's a very special edition of Current Affairs, with every article devoted to animal welfare. We’ve recruited leading scholars and activists to lend their voices in this issue, but we’ve done it with the signature Current Affairs satirical and artistic flair.

Could rats soon have better access to birth control than women? Well, let's hope everyone can have access! NY is testing a pilot program that is more humane for everyone and for the sake of all animals, we hope this becomes the norm and all rodenticides and traps are banned. #HumaneSolutions #AnimalRights #BirthControl

26 states have citizen-initiated ballots/referenda. If citizens propose a law and collect enough signatures, their idea can be placed on next election's ballot for everyone to consider. Your state isn't listed? No worries! Cities & counties have ballot box initiatives too. 🧵1/3

I have seen animals in the moments before slaughter - shuddering as they await the blade. And that will NEVER be ok. Even one violent death is one too many. We should say this. Because it's in our hearts. Because it's true. And because heartfelt truths can change everything.

Our proposed ballot initiative would recognize artificial insemination as animal sexual assault. Glad this article by @gnrosenberg and @jan_dutkiewicz highlight the contradictions of our cruelty laws, although wish a mention of our initiative was included. newrepublic.com/article/1604…

"By pushing for laws that exempt farms, the Humane Society helped to install a legal regime that normalizes and even exhorts practices that it considers intolerable when done to pets. Such laws...harden the cruel boundary between companion animals and livestock ever more."

IP28 would remove the exemptions among Oregon's animal cruelty laws, making it so anything we can't do to our companions (such as slaughtering, experimenting, hunting, and inseminating them) would also be banned for all animals statewide. Visit yesonip28.org for more.

"For an issue like animal rights, which is almost completely ignored by politicians, mainstream media, and even other social justice movements, ballot measures are a powerful tactic to put the issue on the table."

We might not post as often, but we've been hard at work collecting signatures! After only three weeks into our new petitioning cycle, we collected over 10,000 signatures. With 23 months remaining, we're confident 2026 will be the year animal liberation is on the ballot in Oregon.

We are excited to announce that we have launched a new initiative for 2026 and have received a certified ballot title from the Secretary of State. IP28 has the same aim as IP3 and IP13, to ban the killing of animals statewide. Learn more at yesonip28.org/about
