Abhijit Sarkar’s murder cannot be buried. Abhijit Sarkar was not just killed. He was hunted. He was chased. He was murdered in front of his mother. And they even killed his dogs and puppies. And sexually assaulted his old mother. Swapan Samaddar, the TMC councillor and one of the prime accused in the 2021 killing of Abhijit, has finally been arrested in West Bengal. And yet, for years, his brother Biswajit fought relentlessly while an entire political ecosystem tried to bury the truth under power, fear and silence. We petitioned the Supreme Court where we have names every accoused. This arrest is not closure. It is the beginning. Bengal does not need selective memory. There must be justice for: Every murder. Every rape allegation. Every displaced family. Every burnt home. Every silenced witness. Every cadre-protected accused. Abhijit Sarkar’s last words in this video must haunt Bengal’s conscience. Because his case was not an exception. It is a window into what political terror looked like under the Trinamool Congress when the state government of Mamata Banerjee looked away.

This girl is apparently a doctor, yet she is publicly mocking a cadaver. A cadaver is not a prop, or an object for cheap humour. It is a human being who chose to donate their body for medical education and scientific advancement after death. When students enter medical college and step into the dissection hall, they take a cadaveric oath, a solemn pledge that serves as a tribute to body donors. The cadaver is regarded as the student's "first teacher" to foster empathy, ethics, gratitude, and respect for human dignity. During my first year of MBBS, our cadaver was a retired Brigadier. We treated him with dignity because we understood that we were learning from a person who had made a conscious, and rare in Indian society, decision for the benefit of future patients and future doctors. Mocking a cadaver and making lewd remarks about the body's private parts is not edgy, funny, or bold. It reflects a complete failure to understand one of the most basic ethical principles taught in medicine: respect for human dignity, even after death. It may or may not attract liability under the BNS, but it is unquestionably conduct that falls far below the ethical standards expected of a medical professional. The @NMC_IND should take cognizance of this matter and ensure that such behaviour has consequences. There was also a boy on the same show who made derogatory remarks about a girl who was apparently his date, and he is rightly facing the consequences of his actions. This girl should be held to the same standard.

Just look at the condition of this traumatized Hindu girl from Pakistan, who was gang-raped by Muslims. The fear, pain, & helplessness in her voice are heartbreaking. No human being should have to endure such horror. For decades, Pakistan's Hindu community has lived as a vulnerable minority. Reports of Hindu girls being abducted, sexually assaulted, forcibly converted, and coerced into marriage continue to emerge with alarming regularity. Many Hindu families live in constant fear for the safety and future of their daughters. At the time of Partition, Hindus constituted a significant percentage of the population in the territory that is now Pakistan. Today, they represent only a small minority. The continuing reports of persecution and discrimination against Hindus deserve urgent international attention. The world cannot remain silent when vulnerable minorities suffer. Human rights must not depend on religion, nationality, or political convenience. I urge people of conscience, human rights organizations, governments, and religious leaders across the world to speak up for the rights, dignity, and safety of Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Silence only emboldens injustice.
