Is it not more likely there are documents that the GMC would not wish to see the light of day….I find their “explanation” to be Not credible…Anyone agree?!….

It’s distressingly disappointing that you couldn’t have made the time whilst in Leeds to have met with the scores of families wrongly bereaved and harmed by maternity services in the city, as you have been asked to do multiple times. 2/

“Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest in the UK, and our world-leading work is rooted in reality”. It’s a shame their world-leading work doesn’t extend to their maternity service, because that would have already saved and improved countless lives. 1/

Like consultants who refuse to do ward rounds or refuse to come when on call. These are not errors, mistakes or accidents. These are choices, tolerated by management.

Exactly. And Hunt (& many like him) routinely describes as 'mistakes' things that are actually negligence, neglect, or deliberate/malicious. When we talk about accountability, including through criminal law, we're not talking about mistakes. @Jeremy_Hunt knows this but for his own reasons continues to conflate very, very different things.

Something has to separate mistakes from people who are trying to do their job and intentional contempt for patient safety.

The assumption that we should take steps to limit the responsibility or accountability of NHS institutions so that individuals feel free to speak up about patient safety issues is fundamentally flawed.

Jeremy Hunt was secretary of state for health, 2012-18. During that time thousands of babies were killed by failings in NHS care, and the consequences of his decisions then continue to be felt. He should be speaking under oath at a statutory public inquiry, not at a conference.
📣 We are super excited to announce that @Jeremy_Hunt will be joining us as a keynote speaker at this year’s #MatSafety2025 Conference! 👉 Learn more: babylifeline.org.uk/conferen… #BabyLifeline #MaternityConference #MaternitySafety #Motherandbaby #Conference #MaternityServices

There is still many avenues for them to speak up and talk freely u shouldnt not prosecute a crime for fear you will stop people talking it’s dangerous! reality is many still say it’s not as bad as harmed families say so what’s happened to date zero accountability isn’t working!

How could a police investigation into Nottingham baby deaths stop staff talking openly when they never really started? A huge part of NUH maternity failings has been a culture of lies and cover ups. Jeremy should know this as he was told it directly by families when he was health secretary. I suppose he just didn't want to hear it.

@JamesTitcombe is right. It is vital this police inquiry does not cause hospital staff to stop talking openly about what happened

The role (in the past) and then lack of role (the last three years or so) @RCObsGyn has played (or not played) in causing many deaths (or at least standing by silently while they were occurring) and then failing to lead (or call for) effective change is a disgrace.

ZHH RIP The baby of Alice and her partner; my condolences to them and all the families failed by @OUH. Yvonne Christley’s words are disrespectful and repugnant, hopefully she will be sacked tomorrow. @LaylaMoran should announce her resignation from @CommonsHealth at once.

Shut up for the sake of all those who commit avoidable wilful negligence and criminal acts or enable and facilitate such. But not for the sake of the victims suffering now and tomorrows to be. This sounds horrifyingly similar to the gang rape victims who were told to shut up.

In recent months families in Oxfordshire have been sharing their experiences of maternity care failings at @OUHospitals, including avoidable birth injuries and avoidable deaths of babies. Instead of supporting these families in speaking up, the local MNVP has published a statement describing them as 'inaccurate sources', 'a singular narrative', and not including 'context'. Exactly what additonal context is needed when a baby who should be alive is instead dead because of care at OUH!?
