The Zero Line — important BBC doc exposing the Russian army's torture and execution of its own soldiers. This part describing the use of pits to detain and degrade deserters stood out, and not the first time I've heard this.

At the time, a UN source told me: "Everyone came into contact with the rebels when they were here, so, in the Russians' eyes, anyone is a suspect. "People thought life couldn't get any worse. But it's got worse.”

That black site was in Bambari. The following year, Human Rights Watch was the next to report on the use of these detention pits - this time in Alindao, 70 miles away. And now the horrendous practice continues today in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine.

Trump sets his military operation in Venezuela to the soundtrack of "Fortunate Son," a song about how the people who start wars are not the ones who pay its costs, it's ordinary working-class Americans who fight and die and pay the price

An unforgettable experience to film inside the operating theatres and resuscitation units of London’s trauma network, following the life-saving work of doctors, nurses and surgeons. Proud to have been part of a great team that has brought this new series to Netflix - out now.

Ten years since I quit my job and bought a one-way ticket to Ukraine to report on the war in Donbas. One of the first photos I took there - pretty raw, snapped on a crappy camera in battle-scarred, Russian-held Nikishyne. Ten years on I wonder what's happened to these two kids.

In Ukraine’s occupied east, way back in 2015, a Russian-backed unit rolls out to the Luhansk front line. Ten years since I took this photo and started out freelancing. And ten years on, the US and Russia start talks on ending the war, without Ukraine even present at the table.

On this day of celebrations, I think of the Syrians who were killed during the war, and of my friend the journalist Marie Colvin and photographer Remi Ochlik, killed in Baba Amr in 2012. I wish they had lived to report this day. @reflextv

Shocked at how fast Kurakhove is falling to the Russians in Donbas I remember a pleasant few days there in late 2015, living with the family of my Russian-language (and deeply pro-Ukrainian) teacher - themselves displaced from Donetsk - before heading to now-obliterated Mariinka
