This violates every major tenet of consumer protection law. Fans paid for tickets, booked flights, reserved hotels, and made travel plans in good faith. Canceling those tickets after the fact raises serious concerns about detrimental reliance and basic fairness. No fan should be punished for wanting to root for their team. And to be clear: Knicks in 5. nypost.com/2026/06/13/sports…

On “Inside City Hall,” City Council Speaker Julie Menin discussed with NY1’s Errol Louis her plan to remodel three public libraries in the city and build at least 300 new affordable apartments across the three sites. “These are city-owned assets, so we can build 100% affordable housing, and it’s really a win-win,” Menin said.

Vacant small lots sprinkled throughout our city could be the answer to unlocking tens of thousands of new units of housing. The Council’s new Advisory Group on Housing Affordability is working to turn these overlooked spaces into homes — and make a big impact on our city’s housing supply.

If we’re serious about tackling inequality and the affordability crisis, we need to start early. The Council is fighting for a transformative $180 million expansion of @NYCKidsRISE that would provide up to $3,000 for incoming kindergarten students and create one of the largest child savings account programs in America. nytimes.com/2026/06/01/nyreg…

When push comes to shove, @SpeakerMenin has workers’ backs. The Speaker expressed solidarity with the TWU at our Intl. Executive Council meeting today, saying “I am honored to be here. I am an incredibly strong ally of the TWU. New York is a proud union town, and you've got a City Council, led by myself as Speaker, who is deeply committed to labor issues and to worker protection.” @twusamuelsen @twulocal100

Not at all. I think this demonstrates what leadership looks like — a Speaker who listens to her members and to the public, especially on legislation that deeply impacts communities across NYC. That’s thoughtful and compassionate leadership. Shoutout to Speaker @JulieMenin.
This appears to be a concession by Menin that she couldn't convince enough members to pull off an override (she needed at least 3 members who didn't vote for the bill on passage to flip to back an override). Remains to be seen whether Mamdani may try to veto this new bill, too.

Announcing, @madmax_fluffy will be the first-ever Dog Speaker of the New York City Council! Appointed today by @speakermenin, Maxine the Fluffy Corgi was also named an honorary co-sponsor of the SCOOP Act, which will tackle dog waste in NYC by expanding access to dog waste bags, increasing public education, and establishing  a composting pilot program. Maxine and her dad, Bryan, have been advocates for the dog community in NYC and we couldn’t be prouder to see her join the ranks of NYC local dog government alongside @DogMayorNYC Simon and Deputy Dog Mayor Mini Pepper Brown.

“Mayor Mamdani and Speaker Julie Menin also announced that they are working with the city council on a plan to reduce the unincorporated business tax (UBT) credit, … a perk that mainly benefits millionaires. That reform will give the city another $68 million in revenue.”

“‘People are literally forgoing meals because of this cost,’ she said. ‘It is shameful.’ “About 1 in 5 New Yorkers struggle to pay for public transit, a burden disproportionately borne by Black and Latino commuters and working mothers, according to a 2024 report from @CSSNYorg.”

Thank you @SpeakerMenin for championing affordable transit for those who need it most!
The cost of riding public transit should never be a barrier for low-income New Yorkers.

We're fighting to expand Fair Fares to provide free subway and bus rides for those who need it most.
