I have to admit, there is one segment of society I particularly do not trust: the self-proclaimed “defenders of the people” who claim the moral high ground while quietly robbing those same people blind.
Watch out for those scoundrels. There are many!
They are not hard to spot. Just ask yourself: when have they genuinely worked for the good of the public?
Too often, they are working to preserve their own power, status, influence, and enrichment while wrapping themselves in virtue and claiming the moral high ground.
Just look around. So many things supposedly created for the public good, public benefit, or public service are clearly not getting better.
At some point, people need to stop blindly accepting the slogans and start laughing at the absurdity of the claims.
People should pay closer attention to actions, not the slogans or self-righteous rhetoric. Because far too often, the very people publicly preaching virtue and sacrifice are those that are privately enriching themselves behind closed doors.
And what a disservice they have done to the common good.
