I was very fortunate to be interviewed yesterday for the @TyndallCentre podcast, Tyndall Talks. In this new episode, myself and my colleague Asha talk about reducing carbon emissions from planes and ships, and what we can do as individuals to help. tyndall.ac.uk/podcasts/beyon…

The world has warmed on average ~1°C in the last 80 years. Where will it go in the next 80? * It looks like we have avoided the worse >3°C * Current action is consistent with 2-3°C (& rising after 2100) * Emissions need to go net zero <2100 to ensure <2°C, the earlier the better!

After a 3-day train journey to Italy, I'm proud to present my research on stochastic uncertainty at the HIPER conference 2022. The shipping sector requires imminent action to achieve its climate change targets using technologies such as wind propulsion and weather routing.

Really excited to be starting a new EPSRC Fellowship with @TyndallCentre, working with @schmid_gallego and alongside @AliceClimate, @simonbullock and others. The research will investigate the feasibility of how sail-assisted ships can optimise their voyage in real-time.

The @IMOHQ set their climate targets against a 2008 baseline. @TyndallManc calculates that since 2008, shipping has already used half of its Paris-compatible carbon budget for 1.5 degrees. @IMOHQ needs to set tougher climate targets and policies asap, #MEPC77

19 countries have joined the Clydebank Declaration at #COP26Glasgow aiming to establish green shipping corridors this decade. Wind propulsion can offer large cuts in CO2 on routes with favourable winds, which could provide important insight into the framework and tech uptake.

Can shipping cut emissions fast enough? 50 or so captains and crew here, charting a course at @MalinGroup #cop26 event, here's the map so far: lots of pink = (concerns) but also yellow (hope), and blue (ideas)...
