Wisconsin has seen an ongoing decline in the number of students enrolled in its school districts. New Forum research find the numbers of schools and their staffing levels have not followed the same path. Our research looks at why that may be, and what the future may hold. 🧵🧵

Our 2023 report, "This Land is Our Land," included a menu of potential conservation funding options for policymakers to consider -- based on past proposals and a review of other states. One of the options mirrored the initiative announced today by @GovEvers. 🧵
I was excited to join @WisconsinDOT and @WDNR at Lake Kegonsa State Park to announce an exciting new partnership. Wisconsinites can now buy their 12-month state park pass when they renew their annual vehicle registration at any Wisconsin DMV or online! content.govdelivery.com/acco…

Our latest research finds that businesses with fewer than 500 employees accounted for most of Wisconsin’s net job growth since 2010. The number of small businesses in the state also expanded rapidly in the post-pandemic period, far outpacing their growth in the prior decade. 🧵

Cigarette smoking continues to decline nationally & in Wisconsin, while vaping is on the rise. One consequence is Wisconsin’s heavy reliance on cigarette tax revenue is waning. Wisconsinites increasingly consume tobacco & nicotine products that are less heavily taxed.

As in the rest of Wisconsin, the pace of development in Jefferson County has slowed in the last decade, and its schools saw enrollment declines. Our latest report began via a request from Jefferson Co. officials. But it's meant to inform the work of officials across the state.

No one was better at what they do than Dan Bice. He called out everyone. Everyone was his source. He broke more news than anyone else in Wisconsin. Republican, Democrat and everyone in between came to Dan. He was thorough. He was fair. He was a pro. He will be missed.
A tremendous loss for our newsroom and our whole state. Daniel Bice, veteran Wisconsin political reporter and columnist, dies at 62 jsonline.com/story/news/obit… via @journalsentinel

Dan Bice was one of a kind. He was fearless, determined and cared more about telling the truth to readers than anyone I've ever worked with. He often broke national news and dug into local stories with the same tenacity. Above all, he was a kind colleague and friend who was never too busy to help. He will be sorely missed.
