WHY VC? Why will @swellvc end up being my life's work? It's because all my experiences have shaped me to become the person I am, and armed me with the skills/strengths which I believe are crucial to success as an early-stage investor

Margs & Moonshots is back for year four Swell VC’s annual AI mixer during NY @Techweek_ . B2B pre-seed and seed founders, investors, and builders under one East Village roof. Alex, Pierre and the Loft team have always been years ahead, quietly building next gen capabilities before the hype cycle catches up
Loft is all in on Space-based AI. Today, satellites are passive sensor platforms. Human operated. Collectors of raw data that gets downlinked, processed on the ground and distributed to users. Our vision is to turn satellites into flying inference engines. Autonomous nodes, connected to the ground by real-time data relays. Satellites were not designed to work this way. Try asking any satellite operator to run a third party provided AI application onboard their satellite....not going to happen. For the past several years, we've been quietly building the software layer onboard that solves this problem, allowing any first or third party AI application to deploy and run on a Loft satellite. This is the key unlock for how we transform our satellites into AI-enabled decision-making nodes. More to come....

the exact problem @credal_ai is solving in production today: permission-sync'd agents across Slack/GSuite/Salesforce/etc, auto PII redaction, human approvals on risky actions, full immutable logs Multiple specialized agents, governed and compliant.

When Rusty and I started investing as a team 14 years ago, we decided to put two constraints in place to stay disciplined - fund size (stay small, laser focused) and check size relative to fund size (high conviction, concentration)
the first book that convinced me that it is worth studying the history of individual firms was "Let My People Go Surfacing": the history of Patagonia not because I liked their weird anti-consumerism, but because the company is an incredible exercise in picking your constraints

How about multiple agents — all accessing information across your work in a compliant, secure way — @credal_ai

First agent to connect to all of your work apps — so it can access information and complete tasks across all of them — will probably win.

Huge congratulations to @thatbergness, Pierre, and the @LoftOrbital team for staying audacious, humble, and obsessed with driving value for their customers. The insane complexity they've abstracted to simplify space access demonstrates their determination to solve the hardest problems first and build a machine around things that do not scale. Honored to be on this journey. loftorbital.com/news/announc…

Imagine putting air filters in all Indian homes
putting a cheap air filter in a classroom leads to roughly the same increase in student test outcomes as the best charter schools in the country ($18k/y)

Sums up the principal-agent problem in venture
I have almost never seen a VC platform team that was actually effective at helping founders recruit pre-Series A.

This is earned insight…there’s no fixing this. having instinct around who to hire is the single greatest superpower a founder can have. And sometimes, it’s binary
One of the most frustrating things as a board member is trying to get a CEO to learn how to raise the talent bar in areas they aren't expert (eg, a technical CEO that consistently hires weak business leaders). It's is very very hard to fix. Requires tremendous coaching. WDYT?
