We're more than halfway through replacing the most important piece of infrastructure in Calgary. The Bearspaw South Feeder Main carries nearly 60% of our water supply. It's a massive project, and it's a reminder that investing in infrastructure isn't optional.

Today, Calgary has lost one of our giants. Alvin Libin helped build the city we know today. The son of immigrants who believed in the promise of this city, he built extraordinary success through hard work, vision, and determination. His story was, in many ways, Calgary's story. What set Alvin apart was what he chose to do with that success. He understood that the true measure of a life is not what we accumulate, but what we leave behind. His name is woven into the fabric of Calgary, through our hospitals, universities, research institutions, sports organizations, and countless community causes that have been strengthened by his leadership and generosity. Generations of Albertans will live longer, healthier lives because of Alvin Libin. His support helped establish Calgary as a centre of excellence in cardiovascular care and medical research. He helped build businesses, create jobs, strengthen institutions, and support causes that enriched countless lives. There are few individuals whose impact can be measured across so many dimensions of a community, and fewer still whose influence will continue to be felt generations after they are gone. On behalf of all Calgarians, I extend my deepest condolences to Alvin's family, friends, and all those who were privileged to know him. Calgary is a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous city because Alvin Libin was here. His was a life of consequence, a life of service, and a life that helped define an era in our city's history. May his memory be a blessing.

74% of Calgarians say Alberta should remain part of Canada. 71% support speaking out about the risks separation would create. Canada isn't perfect. No country is. But our future isn't built by walking away from our challenges. It's built by fixing them, together.

Stage A construction of the Bearspaw South Feeder Main is now 51 per cent complete.   Project remains on schedule and the project continues to achieve significant milestones. As construction for Stage A progresses, we are using a method called two-pass microtunneling. The tunnel is being lined with a concrete carrier pipe first, then the new steel pipe will be installed. The concrete carrier pipe installation is 55 per cent complete.   Additional construction to support Stage A continues to progress on track, including:  * Microtunneling shaft construction on 16 Avenue N.W. at 44 Street N.W.    * Microtunneling shaft construction on 16 Avenue N.W. at Home Road. * Microtunneling shaft construction near Sarcee Trail N.W. on 29 Avenue N.W.  "Both Stage A and B of the project remain on track to have the new feeder main operational by the end of 2026,” said Darren Finney, Manager, Major Projects. “Our teams and our contractors continue to optimize logistics and advance construction to support safety, schedule and quality every step of the way while delivering this critical project for Calgarians.”   Stage B construction update   Stage B construction began last month using the open-cut construction method. Initial cross-connection work on 77 Street N.W. and 83 Street N.W. between 33 and 34 Avenue N.W. is now complete. Impacted roadways have been paved and are now open.  Construction on the first blocks to support the installation of the new feeder main begins this week along 34 Avenue N.W. at two locations between 79-80 Street N.W. and 85-86 Street N.W. This block sequenced approach will allow roadways to be restored as construction progresses along 34 Avenue N.W.    The new steel pipe is expected to begin arriving in Calgary within one week and will be installed in the open-cut trenches rapidly. Steel pipe will continue to arrive in Calgary over the coming weeks and teams will continue to install pipe as it arrives for both Stage A and Stage B of the project.  Community Outreach  We continue to work with those impacted directly and encourage residents in the project area to connect with us to support their needs.   Those in the project area with questions or concerns are encouraged to visit the project’s Community Resource Centre, located at the Bowness Community Association.  Office hours: Monday and Wednesday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.    Tuesday and Thursday, 10 a.m.–7 p.m.     Construction Liaison hours:  The BSFM Construction Liaison is on-site at the Community Resource Centre on Wednesdays between 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.  For additional project information and construction updates, visit calgary.ca/bearspawfeedermai…

In 2023, Mayor @JeromyYYC joined the @YYCStairclimb in support of @WellspringAB and he’s participated every year since. (He has kindly suggested I nudged him into the event.) This year, his fundraising and ours with the @CalgaryPolice team generated over $19,000 for Wellspring.

I was proud to kick off and take part in the 12th annual Firefighter Stairclimb Challenge. More than 500 participants from across the world took on the 1,370-step climb up 57 storeys of Brookfield Place, all in support of Wellspring Alberta and the firefighters, families, and caregivers facing cancer. A special thank you to Kathy Blas, who created this challenge in honour of her brother, fallen Calgary firefighter Gord Paul. Thank you to Brookfield Properties, the Calgary Firefighters Association, the Calgary Fire Department, and the many sponsors, volunteers, and participants who made this day possible. And thanks to everyone who donated! Together, we're helping ensure no one faces cancer alone.

Great to stop by Councillor Tyers' town hall this week. Kim has been a strong advocate for safer communities, lower taxes, and practical solutions for the issues residents raise. More than a hundred people came out to share perspectives. Thank-you for your leadership and commitment to listening!

I recently joined @RealTalkRJ with @ryanjespersen to talk about the province's plan for rail service between Calgary and Edmonton. This is an important step forward for Calgary and Alberta. For decades, people have talked about connecting downtown Calgary, the airport, and the Bow Valley by rail. With the province advancing its Passenger Rail Master Plan, that vision is moving closer to reality. A modern passenger rail network would strengthen tourism, support economic growth, create jobs, reduce pressure on our transportation network, and better connect our region. Calgary is Canada's fastest-growing major city. As we continue to welcome new residents and businesses, we need infrastructure that matches our ambition. This announcement makes it even more important to accelerate the Prairie Economic Gateway, complete the Green Line, and advance rapid transit connections to the airport. Together, these initiatives will strengthen Calgary's role as Western Canada's transportation and logistics hub while improving how people and goods move throughout the region. I look forward to working with the Government of Alberta, neighbouring municipalities, Indigenous partners, the Calgary Airport Authority, and the private sector as this work moves forward. The vision unveiled today by Minister Dreeshen and Premier Smith demonstrates what is possible when we think big, work together, and strengthen the connections that support a stronger Alberta and a stronger Canada. 👀 FULL: rtrj.info/060526Farkas 📷 FULL: rtrj.info/060526

Talk of separation drives away investment. I shared those thoughts at the Global Energy Show in Calgary.

I was privileged to welcome the Global Energy Show to Calgary. Our city has earned its place as one of the world's great energy capitals, driven by innovation, investment, and the skilled people who power our industry. The world needs more Canadian energy, and Calgary is leading the way. == full remarks == Welcome to Calgary. The world has come to Calgary this week. The Global Energy Show brings together investors, innovators, policymakers, and energy leaders from around the globe. There is no better place to host it than Alberta. Our province is home to some of the world's largest energy reserves, one of the most skilled workforces anywhere, and a growing pipeline of projects that will help meet global demand for decades to come. The world needs more Canadian energy. Alberta is ready to deliver it. Because what brings us together this week is bigger than energy. It is about economic security. It is about competitiveness. It is about whether Canada will seize one of the greatest economic opportunities of our lifetime. Around the world, demand for energy, electricity, AI infrastructure, critical minerals, LNG, and advanced manufacturing continues to grow. The countries that provide reliable energy, reliable infrastructure, and reliable partnerships will shape the future global economy. Canada should lead. We have the resources. We have the workforce. We have the expertise. We have the technology. We have the environmental standards. And we have something increasingly valuable in today's world. Stability. The world is looking for trusted suppliers, secure supply chains, and dependable democratic partners. Canada can provide all three. Few countries are better positioned. Which brings me to the choice facing Alberta. At the very moment the world is looking for more Canadian energy and more Canadian investment opportunities, some want us to spend our time debating separation. I believe that is a profound mistake. Albertans have legitimate frustrations. We need better market access. We need to build projects faster. We need a stronger voice in Confederation. But there are two ways to respond. One is to fix Canada. The other is to walk away from Canada. I believe we can fix this country. And I believe we must fix this country. Because uncertainty comes with a cost. There is a reason the Bank of Montreal is no longer headquartered in Montreal. There is a reason investment flowed out of Quebec during decades of constitutional battles and referendum campaigns. Political uncertainty drives investment away. Businesses delay decisions. Capital looks elsewhere. Jobs disappear before a single vote is ever cast. Alberta has far too much potential to spend years talking itself into uncertainty. Every major economy in the world is competing for investment. The United States. China. India. The Middle East. They are focused on growth. They are focused on building. That should be our focus too. Alberta's future is strongest within Canada. Our prosperity is tied to Canada. Our access to global markets is tied to Canada. Our investment climate is tied to Canada. Canada's advantage comes from combining our strengths. Alberta's energy. British Columbia's ports. Ontario's manufacturing sector. Quebec's aerospace expertise. Together, we have the scale to compete with the world's largest economies and the opportunity to become an energy superpower. That future is being built right here. Calgary has become one of the world's great energy capitals, bringing together innovators, investors, entrepreneurs, engineers, researchers, and skilled workers to solve some of the world's biggest challenges. As Mayor, my focus is simple. Build housing. Build infrastructure. Build trade corridors. Build power generation. Build the conditions for investment and growth. Because the countries that thrive in the decades ahead will be the countries that build. This country was built by people who thought big. Railways crossing mountains. Ports connecting oceans. Energy infrastructure stretching across a continent. Every generation has been called to build. This is our generation's turn. The choice before us is clear. We can spend the next decade arguing with each other. Or we can spend the next decade building together. We can create uncertainty. Or we can create prosperity. I know which future I choose. A strong Alberta. A growing Alberta. A confident Alberta. Leading within a strong and united Canada. Because when Alberta succeeds, Canada succeeds. And when Canada succeeds, Alberta succeeds. The world needs more Canadian energy. Let's deliver it. Thank you.

It was a blast to join Councillor Rob Ward at Lakeview Community Association's 60th Anniversary! We recreated a special Lakeview tradition, one that was previously shared with the late Hon. Premier Ralph Klein and again with Mayor Nenshi during the Lakeview Community Association's 50th anniversary celebration in 2016.

Last week, about 2,000 Calgary students took part in the Mayor’s Environment Expo! This free, annual event, now in its 37th year, is designed to inspire the next generation of environmental leaders. With more than 100 sessions offered online and in person, students explored hands-on exhibits and learning opportunities led by City staff and community partners. They also learned about local environmental issues and practical actions they can take at school and at home. Want to learn more? Visit calgary.ca/mee to see session recordings, and other educational opportunities.
