On the topic of #AI and #consciousness: the real discovery may not be that AI can fool us into thinking it has a sense of self, but that we’ve been fooling ourselves into thinking we do

Here's a fun one. Modeling solid mechanics with peridynamics coupled to a discretely conserving flow solver using immersed boundaries to simulate shock-induced breakup

I'll be joining Maize and Blue Courage and Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel February 10 to discuss academic freedom and what's at stake as federal funding for science and medicine is cut. Tune in 7:00 PM this Tuesday: maizeandbluecourage.com/febr…

Tommy is an amazing agent. He cares about the work he takes on. Gets books in front of editors. What else could you ask for?
I’m looking for more commercial mysteries and thrillers! Stories that readers cannot stop turning the page to find out what happens next!

New paper out in the journal Fuel: doi.org/10.1016/j.fuel.2025.… Sharp-cornered flare nozzles promote flow separation, boosting combustion efficiency and delaying blowout. With @EPA flares required to exceed 96.5% efficiency, simple nozzle geometry changes could help meet standards.

PhD student Archana Sridhar will be defending on Mon November 10! Title: Turbulence Transport in High-Speed Particle-Laden Flows. Using large-scale simulations, Archana uncovered new flow physics and developed a novel multiphase turbulence model that can be used in LES & RANS.

Turbulence drives heterogeneous particle adhesion in channel flows, with adhesion strength rising at higher temperatures. DNS show that deposition depends on particle inertia and is shaped by turbulent structures. Read the PRFluids Editors’ suggestion: go.aps.org/4hjW6OK

New paper out in @PhysRevFluids (Editor's suggestion)! PhD student Max Herzog shows how free-stream #turbulence leads to heterogeneous deposition of elastic-plastic (adhesive) particles, resulting in 10X increase in surface wear. journals.aps.org/prfluids/ab…
