Happy day! After having become principal guest 2012, chief guest 2017, I am still further intensifying my relation with @BBCPhilharmonic - one of the most skilful, brilliant orchestras - now as chief conductor. A relation strongly built on great music making, partnership, trust!

📣 We're delighted to announce that @johnstorgards has been appointed as the Chief Conductor of BBC Philharmonic.
John’s appointment builds on an existing fruitful relationship with the orchestra which began in 2010 and saw him become the Chief Guest Conductor in 2017.

Really? Maybe they stagnated because the strategy of pressuring the victim to surrender to an aggressor, who would almost certainly murder us under occupation, was stillborn from the start. Perhaps, instead, you could try putting pressure on Russia and arming Ukraine to make this war unbearable for the ones actually choosing to wage it every day?

China wants a trade deal with the EU. Finland just made that impossible — unless China drops Russia.

Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen was direct: China's ties with Moscow are a deal-breaker for any EU-China free trade agreement. No negotiations can begin without all 27 EU member states on board. Finland is one of them.

Beijing has been pitching trade and investment deals to European leaders for months. Last month Germany's chancellor called such an agreement potentially achievable. Valtonen just cooled that down significantly.

China now has to choose: one of the world's largest markets, or continued partnership with a sanctioned, isolated aggressor.

That's a real economic squeeze — and it came from Helsinki, not Washington.
