this is the on-the-ground reaction to @CharlieCrist (who remains the best retail pol outside of Bill Clinton) in St. Pete, which, under @MayorKenWelch is losing its baseball team and is STILL deeply damaged by the hurricanes. The city is DESPERATE for change.
I've had some friends on the left question why Charlie Crist was at a press conference with Ashley Moody and Rick Scott. Because, as Charlie says, it's not about left vs. right. It's about right vs. wrong. I'll die on any hill where my guy stands up against antisemitism.

The U.S. should hold Iran directly responsible for Hezbollah’s violation of the ceasefire by firing attack drones into Israel the preceded Israel’s counterstrike. You don’t get to have it both ways.

HORRIFIC: Israeli settler terrorists attacked the village of Jett in the West Bank, setting vehicles on fire. In this video, settlers smash the windows of two cars with three children inside one of them, and set the cars on fire, in an attempt to burn the children alive.

Everyone should condemn this. However, this is indicative of what the Republican party in Florida has become. Time for change. Time for decency. Time for candidates who will govern for all. Time for @davidjollyfl and @GwenGraham as our next Governor and LG.
.@J_Fishback calling @ByronDonalds a "slave" is one of the ugliest moments I can remember in Florida politics. Save your whataboutism; I know there have been uglier, violent moments, but every decent Republican should condemn this behavior.

I’ve seen the paper. It’s not a jailbreak. It was Defense Oriented Prompting (DOP), capabilities defenders need. My thoughts on the hasty Export Controls that made Anthropic pull Fable. If Nat defense is the goal, this just scored an own goal against us wsj.com/tech/ai/anthropic-ha…

I generally love Sacks here but this message is not demonstrating his usual quality of judgement. He is balancing between various internal stakeholders he needs to satisfy and delivering mush message that doesn't help explain the situation. What does it mean that Anthropic was demanded to "fix the jailbreak"? How does he know it's easy? And why is export controls the right tool for the job? Is this now the future? Whenever Pliny The Elder releases a jailbreak models become unavailable to products that use them downstream until the model can be.. put back in jail? Why are we adopting the ridiculous framing of Anthropic that considers their model to be a weapon?
I’ve had a number of conversations with folks inside and outside government about the current situation with Anthropic, and here is what I believe to be true: — As we know, Anthropic publicly released its Mythos class models earlier this week under the commercial name Fable. — Fable is Mythos with guardrails. But if those guardrails fail, then you’ve exposed Mythos and its advanced cyber capabilities to people who shouldn’t have them. (Keep in mind that Anthropic itself widely promoted the idea that Mythos was a cyberweapon and needed to be regulated as such. They asked for government regulation of Mythos and championed the guardrails on Fable. If there is a vulnerability — big or small — it is Anthropic’s responsibility to patch.) — A highly credible trusted partner of both Anthropic and the USG who was testing Fable came forward with a jailbreak of those guardrails. The Admin asked Dario to fix the jailbreak or de-deploy the model. Dario refused. — In their blog post, Anthropic defended its decision by saying the jailbreak isn’t serious. That is not what the trusted partner and the USG believe; nor is that kind of minimizing language consistent with Anthropic’s brand as the AI safety company. It’s difficult to fathom how they could claim a jailbreak allowing operability of a cyber weapon could be defined as not “serious.” — In the past, Anthropic has always said that safety must be top priority and taken super seriously. In this case, Anthropic prioritized the continued offering of the consumer model over safety. — In reaction, the Admin issued the export control. The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community. — The Admin’s hope now is that Anthropic remediates the safety issue, the export control is lifted, and Fable goes back into general release. The Admin wants all of this to happen as soon as possible. It is frankly bewildered that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to comply with safety requests that it previously said were its highest priority. — Those trying to misdirect and tie this action to the prior DoW/Anthropic issues are wrong. The Admin values Anthropic’s technical capabilities and feels that this issue, while serious, should be easily resolved. The ball is in Anthropic’s court.

Some of the worst social media toxicity on national security affairs issues on and off this website come from FDD personnel and leadership, starting with Mark. Note David's nonsense tweet was retweeted by a member of the WSJ editorial board. Not hard to figure out why different opinions on Israel don't get published there.
I'm actually quite proud to work at FDD and not at a place where people engage in the worst kind of social media gotcha-ism to crucify someone for the worst possible interpretation of something they said, something they never intended. FDD is a think tank. We engage with ideas. We don't call for murdering people for their ideas. That's what Iran did by putting FDD on its hit list. No, we advocate policies and call out terrible ideas, like when Beinart advocates for Jews to relinquish self-determination in the world's only Jewish state. Anyone who knows the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and follows Palestinian current events (or other sectarian conflicts) would know that that is a recipe for a bloodbath. Khamenei, Sinwar, and Nasrallah all engaged in military efforts to destroy Israel and were themselves dealt with militarily. Beinart engages in intellectual efforts to destroy Israel and should be dealt with intellectually. Perhaps stepping out of social media's toxicity would be helpful for those putting words into Mark's mouth and attacking him for their imagination.

🚨 Statement from Chairman @EvanPower & the Republican Party of Florida: The RPOF is rescinding James Fishback’s invitation to the Sunshine State Showdown and all other official gubernatorial primary activities. After repeated outreach, we extended an opportunity in good faith. The next day, Fishback joined a rival, unsanctioned debate in violation of Party rules. His remarks today in Tallahassee were filled with falsehoods and baseless attacks on the Party, its leaders, and fellow Republicans. Racism and antisemitism have no place in our Party. We hold ourselves to a higher standard. Florida Republicans deserve a fair primary process with the same rules for everyone. Our focus remains on defeating Democrats and delivering results for Floridians. Full statement: florida.gop/republican-party…

Dear Lord… …Ambassador Leiter telling @kaitlancollins that @BarakRavid has “an agenda” is so cliche… Maybe the problem isn’t Barak, maybe it’s that the BiBi regime finds journalism threatening, especially bilingual journalists who publish in English and Hebrew.

This from @davidjollyfl is what decency sounds like. We can have a Governor we can be proud of in Florida, one who puts principles and patriotism over politics, and one who leads with dignity and empathy when a fellow candidate takes ill.

🚨🚨More quotes from my phone call with president Trump: “The Iranian strikes didn’t hurt anybody. Hopefully Israel is not going to retaliate. If Bibi strikes them back it’s just gonna keep going like the last 47 years, or the last 3000 years" 🚨🚨Trump added: "We are very close to a final deal with Iran. It is going to be a good deal. I don’t want it to blow up because of what is happening now" 🚨🚨Trump stressed: "I am going to call Bibi right now and tell him not to retaliate. Each of them had their fun. Israel had its strike and Iran had its strike. We don't need another one"
🚨🚨President Trump tells me: I am going to call Netanyahu right now and tell him not to strike back

Spoke with President Trump. We'll have more on Fox News in a few minutes. "What I would suggest to Iran: You've shot your missiles, that's enough. Get back to the table and make a deal," President Trump told Fox News.
