@troyhunt Interesting (or maybe not) piece of info for you... your latest import of passwords increased the number of occurrences of "correct horse battery staple" from something less than 100 (it was 5 a few years ago, not sure if it was still that) to 187.

I detected this because I have CI tests for an API client that was testing that that password returned less than 100 results, and they started failing.

Bins floating down the road in Malaga at the moment. We've been kicked out of our meeting room for safety reasons, and are sitting on the floor in the hallway of a higher level in the hotel continuing our meeting.

Tell me you haven't been in a supermarket for 20 years without telling me you haven't been in a supermarket for 20 years.
You're not imagining it. Companies really are shrinking products to charge you more for less. So here's what we'll do.

Hey @SunriseSunsetio, would you consider adding astronomical twilight times to your API? I'd like to build a tool where I can make queries like "What objects will be at least 20° above the horizon for the first 2 hours after astronomical twilight on this particular date?"

Woke up to being locked out of my Facebook account. I have tried accessing it like it said on every device that I've logged in on Facebook before is, doesn't change. I've logged out and back in, done 2FA challenge successfully, but still the same locked out message.

There are no other options than "Try coming back on a phone or computer you've used to log into Facebook before." I've come back on both my phone and my computer. Both say the same thing. I use Facebook Messenger a lot and am currently cut off from everyone.

If there was unusual activity on my account, the issue is most likely on Facebook's end. I use a unique randomly generated password for Facebook, not shared with any other sites, and I have 2FA setup. I've received no notifications of someone trying to log in.

The year is 2024. The JDK still provides no API to sign X.509 certificates. Is this platform even serious about security?

A fact not many people know: The final keyword on class fields in Java means far more than just "this field can never be modified". It acts as a memory barrier, similar to volatile, for the referenced object/array and its contents.

This makes it safe to share immutable objects even without a synchronized or volatile memory barrier.

@TheSlowMoGuys I just watched the video from a few years back where you said that a crack travelled at Mach 4.2. Sorry, you're wrong. The mach speed is the speed proportional to the speed of sound in the medium the thing was travelling. The crack was not travelling through air.

It was travelling through glass, where the speed of sound is 4540m/s (though that probably depends on the type of glass). So, the cracks speed was Mach 0.32.

Twitter brains trust, iptables question: If I REDIRECT a packet to localhost on the nat OUTPUT chain, where does the packet go next? Will it still go through the filter OUTPUT chain, does it get sent straight to the input path, or something else?

I have definite proof that WhatsApp shares contact information with Facebook. I just double checked, my Facebook app does not have permission to read my contacts on my phone.

We have no mutual friends, we don't live in the same country. The ONLY way that Facebook could have associated this person with me is through WhatsApp.

I suppose Facebook could have made the association if the other person had allowed Facebook to access their contacts... but if that's so, that's worse right? Facebook essentially is disclosing to me who has added me as a contact in their phone, that's a big privacy breach.

One of the frustrating things about being a tech vendor supporting a large enterprise customer is the number of times different teams who don't talk to each other put requirements on you that it's the customers responsibility to implement.

For example, from a team that handles log aggregation: What format are the logs in? Do they contain PII? Um... you're the ones writing the application that writes the logs. The logs will be in the format you use, and if you output PII, the logs will contain PII.
