The “half don’t know six million” stat sounds shocking, but it’s a blunt recall test: any answer other than “~6m” (even higher numbers or “not sure”) counts as not knowing. Comparing the same question across countries, Ireland actually has the highest share getting it right. 6/8

The President of Israel’s grandfather Yitzhak HaLevi Herzog was the first Chief Rabbi of Ireland (1921-1935). He spoke fluent Irish, helped write the Irish Constitution & was called the ‘Sinn Féin Rabbi’.
But you’ll be told Ireland was antisemitic and supported the Nazi’s.

It’s so easy to do opposite narrative too. Chief rabbi of Dublin, Yitzhak Herzog was personal friends of Devalera and helped to write the Irish constitution. His son was an Israeli president, his grandson (who is second generation Irish. Is the current Israeli president).

Throughout my life I have wholly disproportionate levels of antisemitism from Ireland. I don't know why - Catholic heritage, neutrality in. WW2 - but, as well as condemning Netanyahu as everyone should, Irish politicians would do well to wonder if something has gone wrong
