Check out our latest study with @Jackson_Lab on covalent fragments that selectively inhibit the Chikungunya virus protease as a starting point for future drug discovery. Congrats to everyone involved in this collaboration @ANUChemistry! doi.org/10.1016/j.bmcl.2025.β¦
Wonderful news to share from the Nitsche group @ANUChemistry right before the start of 2025! Congratulations to PhD student @MinghaoShang and PI @NitscheLab on the new publication in @OrgBiomolChem π―π
#CIPPS2024 Annual Symposium at @QStationManly is a wrap. 132 attendees over 4 days: 6 invited speakers; 31 EMCR talks; 23 Flash talks; 61 posters; and 3 workshops! There was even wellness activities on the beach before breakfast. Thanks all for making this our biggest yet!
Today, 35 years ago on 9 November 1989, the Berlin Wall fellβa pivotal event without which I and millions of others would not have had the chance to freely pursue their life goals. A timely reminder that freedom should never be taken for granted.
So proud to announce the graduation of our first three PhD students, now Dr @RichardMorewood, Dr @junming_he and Dr @s_ullr. Thank you for your invaluable contributions to establishing our lab @ANUChemistry. Congratulations and all the best for your future!
Our 3-in-1 biocompatible synthesis of macrocyclic peptides is out now in @ChemEurJ. Thiazolines form in the backbone, metal-free oxidation yields very stable thiazole peptides, and hydrolysis leads to homodetic macrocyclic peptides. Well done @junming_he! doi.org/10.1002/chem.2024017β¦
It was an amazing experience with @junming_he summarising this perspective on biocompatible peptide macrocyclisation strategies! Thanks to @NitscheLab for all the inputs.
Very honoured to receive the @VC_ANU Award for Excellence in Advancing Research. This one is for my family, particularly my wife Marlena and our two older children, Lotti and Alex, who have made numerous sacrifices over the past 10 years. I owe them everything!
Introducing the RACI Young Chemists Committee
And we have kick off! The inaugural meeting of the RACI Young Chemists Committee was held during May. We're looking forward to the ideas and advice this committee will generate so we can invest in making a difference.

Last night during the ACT RACI titration comp, the @RACInational ACT committee hosted a tour & workshop for teachers to view our advanced technology suits in @ANUChemistry! A great success and many positive feedback! π―
It's been an amazing honour to be at the #GYSS2023. Feeling truly inspired by the @NobelPrize laureates and emerging young scientists gathered here in #Singapore. Thanks @ourANU and @gyss_sg for selecting me to participate and to present some of my work @NitscheLab at the event.
My journey as a RACI Uni Ambassador was just published in the latest issue of Chemistry in Australia. If you're keen to read about my adventures in #scicomm & outreach check out the Dec'22-Feb'23 issue on pg 32! π¨βπ¬ @RACInational@scienceANUchemaust.raci.org.au/issue/dβ¦
To round off this session, @NitscheLab gave a great talk about why cyclic peptides are so special (partially because they represent another tastier type of cyclic species π₯¨)
The talk was so hot it even set off the fire alarm π₯π¨ #CIPPS2022
