My heart broke several times today. First Beryl, now Melissa. We don’t know why South West, why St. Bess, or why Jamaica, but we’ve risen before, and we will rise again. I will respond to messages soon. Trying to make contact with more of my constituents.

#Melissa made landfall just 20 km from Black River, Jamaica which is home to many crocodiles. I visited in 2015 and went on a safari boat down the river. I'm wondering what kind of impact the storm will have on these beasts and the humans in the area.

Measurements from the Hurricane Hunters have recorded winds of ~215 MPH and gusts of ~252 MPH in the lowest 150 meters of Category 5 Hurricane Melissa’s southern eyewall. Yes, you read that right. This is not a typo. We are witnessing one of the strongest Hurricanes in history and she is about to make landfall at peak intensity in Jamaica.
