Enormous thanks to my agent @s_haywood for helping a first-time author (still can’t believe that’s me now 😱) navigate this world, and bigtime gratitude to the team at Harper Collins for supporting this project

And of course, a huge thank you to the survivors, volunteers & firefighters who continue to trust me with their stories, often at risk to their own careers. What you have to say matters, and we should be listening more than we are

“Cdn journalism needs to get better at telling its own story & being willing to stand up & defend our rights & our responsibility to be in these spaces to do our jobs properly," said @jwints As wildfires worsen, journalists are still fighting for access: j-source.ca/journalists-are-…

It’s ridiculous media can’t go to Jasper. I spoke with dozens of people after Fort Mac reopened and only one person didn’t want to talk. Most people who have gone through a disaster want others to know about what they went though, who they blame, what their plans are, etc. 🧵

My speech from IJA Tim Giago Free Press award in Oklahoma City this weekend: …Criminal That's what happens when you think you are above the Law dumb bitch You need to be sent to jail Do what you’re told like real journalists Have you learned any lessons? You’re lucky you weren’t shot I hope the crown shows no mercy Those were a handful of the comments I received on social media following my arrest on January 10… “I sure as hell didn’t follow the so called rules of the police that day. Because they had no business interfering in the work that I do. I wasn’t impeding theirs. I’ve covered far too many acts of violence at the hands of colonial armed forces. And I know they shoot to kill our people at higher rates than any other race in Canada. And I know, thank God, I know my rights as member of the press covering police actions. The criminalization of journalists on Turtle Island is barrelling out of control. And most all of the journalists being arrested are covering Indigenous rights, land defence or marginalized protests.”

For weeks there's been a lack of information on what's been happening since the Victoria Gold mine failure. Experts tell me the situation is much worse than has been revealed to date by the Yukon government and company. cbc.ca/news/canada/north/vic…

At 11 a.m. PDT, all members of the BC Wildfire Service, and our partners supporting us in the field, will down tools and observe a moment of silence to remember and honour our colleague, Devyn Gale, who died in the line of duty on July 13 last year.

I know there’s a lot of news around today - and a lot of sports news - but this is one of the greatest achievements by a British athlete, ever. I’m so happy he’s done it. theguardian.com/sport/articl…
