And I didn't get crucified 🙏
Now that we're soon running out of 32-bit namespace for transfer IDs at @Wise, the engineers are annoyed with me choosing int over long when I wrote the first lines of code in 2010. But why don't they appreciate the $17 of savings in storage cost over years!? 🤷

On a $1000 invoice at today's exchange rates, I'd receive €784.39 from PayPal or €850.34 from @Wise. That's a €66 difference and a total gut punch. In the past, I've told clients I'd pay any wire or transfer fees if they swapped payment method. They've all said yes.

When the stock markets are ripping, then so does my @Wise current account with the Stocks feature. Ofc in the months when markets go down I will lose money. Therefore money is at risk with Stocks.

Quarterly earnings: customer edition Our financial year ended with March and we reported metrics for the final quarter. But how does it look from the customers' perspective? People and small businesses hold $40 billion on their Wise accounts and earned circa $528 million from their holdings in the last 12 months. What's the problem that we're fixing? Money sitting on your everyday spending account at a bank usually earns you nothing, yet your bank earns risk-free benchmark interest from the central bank or the government. From your money! Enter Wise Assets. An Interest feature to bypass the bank and you to get interest from government bonds and assets guaranteed by those. And the Stocks feature for those of us, who believe that stock markets are the best store of value on average over the long term and are willing to put their capital at risk.

Incredible to pay the bill by just pointing my phone's camera to a whatsapp thread that has a screenshot of the bill. No need to enter anything.

I worked a shift at our customer branch on Oxford Street. It was a lot of fun. Why are we opening a branch when all traditional banks are trying to get rid of theirs? Why are we jailbreaking out of apps? People and small businesses are now holding $40 billion on their @Wise everyday spending accounts. It's growing fast, 37% last year. Mostly by our customers recommending to their friends. One of the things they mention is the support and experience they are getting compared to what they've learned to expect from their bank. We already serve 280,000 customer interactions on live phone and chat channels each month. Our people are instantly available 24/7. We do that in so many languages. Now we're taking this support to the next level. You enjoy a human experience more than a phone call? Come see our team in person! I don't exactly know how these branches are going to operate. We are doing a concept on Oxford street. It is an opposite experience to the last time you visited your bank branch. Cue the Jenki matcha. We may do a few more concepts and try out different things around the world, before we settle on permanent homes and physical spaces for our customers. It's coming.

The biggest outage we ever had at Monzo was in the early days when a third party card processor suddenly hit 2^31 transactions (they were using signed integers…) Their entire processor was implemented as stored procedures on MS SQL Server - mostly by people that no longer worked there. Their fix was to “run a migration” to change the column type to long - not realising it would take the better part of a day to complete the migration, and that no new rows could be added during this time Fun

Be less "banker". Be more Nationwide. The 140 year-old British lender has joined the decent [and cool] kids on the block @StarlingBank and @monzo, going full transparent on their cross-border fees. Exchange rate is a perfect place to hide a fee from unsuspecting customers. Most banks and even some payment companies can't resist the temptation. It's no coincidence that @AskNationwide is structured as a membership owned by it's customers. 🤷
