Eighty-two years ago, Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy. Among them were the Bedford Boys — 44 men from a small Virginia town of just 3,200 people. Nineteen were killed within the first nine minutes, without ever firing a shot, giving Bedford the highest per capita D-Day loss in the nation. They gave up their tomorrows for our today. We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Coach Curt Newsome. A respected leader at Virginia Tech, James Madison, Emory & Henry & across Virginia high school football, Coach Newsome devoted his life to mentoring student-athletes & building championship programs. Saddened to learn of the passing of Curt Newsome - one of the more respected football coaches in the Commonwealth of Virginia - at the age of 67. Newsome was Head Coach for 10 seasons at his alma mater, Emory & Henry. He also served as an assistant at James Madison and Virginia Tech. At the prep level, Newsome guided Kecoughtan HS to six playoff wins, including a trip to the State Championship game in 1997. Thoughts and prayers to his entire family. #RIP my friend!

I appreciated my time at @forkunion then, but I appreciate it even more now with the perspective of adulthood. The discipline, toughness, accountability, and leadership that Coach Shuman and Coach Arritt on the @FUMAPGFootball football staff instilled in us gave me tools that extended far beyond football. Fork Union helped prepare me not just to succeed as a student-athlete, but to become a better leader, husband, father, brother, and entrepreneur. Some lessons take years to fully understand their impact!

One of the bills I signed today allows school boosters to raise money to enhance compensation for coaches. We can’t keep letting coaches from neighboring states like @3YearLetterman get windfalls while our FL coaches get paltry compensation.

We are saddened and heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Kyle Busch, a two-time Cup champion and one of our sport's greatest and fiercest drivers. He was 41 years old. We extend our deepest condolences to the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and the entire motorsports community.
