My testimony on HB 1 to the House Select Committee on Educational Opportunity and Enrichment.
Our students and teachers deserve better. #txlege#pubed#FundTexasSchools
The Governor’s bribe is immoral. Texas schools are $40 Billion behind the national average in per student funding. Texas parents demand @GregAbbott_TX do his job & expand the call to fund our schools.
@GovAbbott is hoarding billions in taxpayer $ that belongs to Texas students.
ICYMI: Governor Abbott last week bluntly said he’s holding up $4 billion in new education spending until he gets a school voucher bill. (ESAs).
This impacts both the state’s student allotment to districts and teacher raises. #TxLege
Over 40,000 Frisco ISD parents, students and staff members completed a survey in the spring related to the District's school environments.

"Texas governor eyes end to property taxes for school operations."
I'm on a mission to eliminate property taxes that fund public school operations.
We have the largest surplus in America.
We can fund schools with abundant other revenues & by cutting spending.

What a sad commentary on "leadership." Perhaps we should consider that we are in the bottom 10 states in funding per student. Where, exactly, have "racial and sexual activism" replaced academics. Where exactly?
Reading & math scores plummet as racial and sexual activism replace academics in schools.
Instead of prioritizing data-proven methods to close gaps in literacy & math, some public schools have spent time on political agendas.
We’re changing that in TX. dailysignal.com/2023/06/22/r…

TEA is damaging the image of public schools with updated accountability ratings so the #txlege can sacrifice them for political gain. Making public schools look bad to pass legislation is sickening. @GregAbbott_TX@MikeMorath
Think the September special #txlege session is an accident?
Great read to understand what’s coming for #txed when ratings are released in Sept.
Teachers, administrators, families, & communities will be impacted by flawed ratings coming down the pike.

Remember that time #txlege had historic amounts of money but didn’t give it to teachers because their boss wanted to give it to wealthy people who send their kids to private school, and when no one liked that idea he said if they can’t have it no one can? Yeah, I remember too.

Teachers got nothing.
Education retirees got nothing.
ISD budgets didn’t even get an inflationary increase.
Keep rationalizing why you vote the way you do. You are hurting children with your vote.
In 1991 the @txlege passed the Lottery to “benefit public education” just like @txed voucher supporters say today. Both are a lie that cost many for the benefit of a few. Let me explain.
If you're a principal planning your back-to-school speech for faculty, this message is for you: please stop telling us to "remember our WHY."
We are too tired for all that.
Say how this year will be better than last year. Stop with the "outcome not the income" dog whistle.
The FISD Board of Trustees recently discussed strategic priorities for the 2023-24 school year. Community members are invited to share input on the proposed priorities that align with the District’s Future-Ready Framework at the June 12 Board meeting. ow.ly/XepK50OHg8Z
Frisco ISD has proposed a deficit budget for the 2023-24 school year and invites the community to provide input during a public hearing on June 12.

To all educators across the state, you are the only state employees not getting a raise, our state values you less than school choice vouchers. Please see this letter from @KingForTexas regarding efforts in the house. @GregAbbott_TX promised to fully fund public schools. He failed
Almost $11 billion in anticipated general revenue left unallocated through 2025, plus more than $27 billion in "rainy day" fund. Yet #txed will continue to lack the resources it needs.
Please look at @jamestalarico entire thread here. But watch this one in particular.
Thank you for these questions, Rep Talarico.
We should all be horrified Republican lawmakers are moving forward with SB763, which will allow unqualified chaplains to replace school counselors.
“Are you aware that the CEO of the National School Chaplain Association describes himself as a ‘former drug-smuggling pirate saved by divine intervention’?”
“I’m not aware.”
Ya know what’s better than a license plate showing yrs of service?
Using the $30 BILLION in the bank to give teacher raises and fully fund public schools!
Please stop playing games with teacher’s livelihoods & the educational experience of our youth! #txlege#txed#4Kids
Ending this session without meaningful #txed funding will leave schools cash strapped and entice teachers to leave the profession. Let’s call this what it is…a deliberate dismantling of pub ed until vouchers become a good idea. #txlege is playing the long game.
