An enviro group contacted my friend (a biologist) to ask if she knew anyone that could provide vids or photos of NZ native wildlife. My friend contacted me and asked if I would help out. This was the response when she told the group that my photos would be of native mussels.

Can any Illinois fishfolk help ID these guys? Saw them yesterday in Champaign, in a creek that drains into the Kaskaskia. I think they're some kind of redhorse, but beyond that I'm not sure! They had super sharp-looking dorsal fins, visible near the end of this clip.

My hot take on #InternationalDayOfWomenInScience: We don’t need a hashtag or a day to celebrate our resilience — we need policy changes that will allow us to thrive ❤️‍🔥

Slightly self-serving tweet, but I have been declared an "expert surgeon" by the Chicago @Suntimes. Shout out to John Bieber (@muskie_maniac) for including me in his ground-breaking research on muskie angling vulnerability! chicago.suntimes.com/2022/1/…

Describe Field Work You as a cryptid, I'll go first (1/2): A Prius pulls off a lone country road by drainage ditch. Clade in a neon blue long-sleeve, purple leggings, and tevas she emerges. It is 90 degrees and 70% humidity.

Describe Field Work You as a cryptid, I'll go first (2/2): She seems to have only two hands yet carries 5 cinder blocks, 10 ft of PVC, and a cooler full of fish. Is that the glint of madness in her eyes? Or just the reflection off her polarized sunglasses?

When you leave the Suski lab you also get a degree in DIY solutions. Go Toni! One of my favorite #WomenInSTEM and one of the best labmates ever
Recently used some (power) tools to make a new clear stereoscope stage for ease of #zooplankton counts and had to drill into some plastic containers with seized lids #womeninSTEM #IBuildThings 🔬🛠🧪 @Warren_Lab

I'm so fortunate that my mom isn't like this. She does her darnedest to understand my research. She even gives an "elevator pitch" when she's telling folks about what I do! She's the best and I so appreciate that's she's interested in my work.
Every year around now, I start to see grad students on twitter bemoan that they’re going home for the holidays to a family that doesn’t understand their research, or what they do in general, and it breaks my heart.
