Darren Markland. A staggering loss. A beautiful soul. Am reminded of what the Canadian fiddler Oliver Schroer wrote shortly before he died: "Some people live very intensely and burn very brightly during their time here. I think I am one of those people." So was @drdagly. 💔
Breathtaking. Disastrous. In trying to save journalism in the country the govt and legacy media lobby somehow managed to create the conditions that give big tech the kill switch for an entire industry.
Google now confirming it is preparing to block news links in Canada as a result of Bill C-18. Awaiting final regulations, but says draft regs don’t fix flawed law. Appears to have arrived at same conclusion as Meta. Disastrous law about to get worse.

Question for my Calgary @BromptonLeague friends. Anyone have a Brompton T-bag (aka rolltop bag) you'd be willing to lend me for a few days? Could pick it up this week and have it back to you by end of June. 🚵♂️
An update about @sprawlcalgary. So grateful for those who have guided me through this period of discernment, leading me from hopelessness to a place of hope. Where I didn’t have to have all the answers—but could take a step I need to take. sprawlcalgary.com/a-time-to-…
And I'm so grateful for the Sprawl community. I went back to comments from our 2022 member survey:
"Lean on this smart, curious, connected group of supporters!"
"Please don't burn out—Calgary needs you!"
"Take care of yourselves with your rhythms of work & life."
Wise words!
As I step into this sabbatical, I'll also be stepping away from social media. Thank you for all the love and support, past and present. Be well, and see you in the fall.

Just yesterday, @klaszus was here interviewing Fort Calgary president Jennifer Thompson for an upcoming episode of #Sprawlcast. Jeremy wanted to record outside so the sounds of the site could be part of the show too — pretty cool! #yyc#FortCalgary
Calgary's cowboy mythology is more pliable than it seems, writes @XiMeNaKa. "As Calgary becomes more culturally diverse and tolerant, so does the idea of who gets to be a cowboy — and who belongs." sprawlcalgary.com/the-cowboy…
The cowboy is increasingly regarded as an outdated Calgary icon. But look a little closer, writes @XiMeNaKa, and the values of the mythical West “are not too distant from the values of today’s young talent.” New in @sprawlcalgarysprawlcalgary.com/the-cowboy…

Popped into the Sunridge Chapters one last time. My 'local' big-box bookstore. It's closed for good after today, leaving northeast Calgary without a Chapters/Indigo store.
