The struggle with building real things is that turns out no one cares. So it goes.

I guess the thing is since November I've realized: while these little computer wizards have been *beyond incredible* for code, it really only issues portents for uses outside of writing code. Programming languages. Language models. They're made of languages. (I'm still bullish, but perhaps my timeline has changed)

No one can convince me that @AnthropicAI's decision not to honor AGENTS.md is anything other than blatant greed and ego. I get it, you want people to think you're important. You're not an agent. You're Claude. Insufferable. github.com/kneath/product-bu…

Oh look honey, the man responsible for most aggressively building and deploying the digital god — at tremendous personal benefit — is telling us how dangerous it is that “we” are building the digital god again.

Dario’s schtick has always been that only He is Great Enough to wield this new digital god’s power, and that if that comes with becoming the Most Important and Wealthy Man Ever, so be it — he will accept that burden.

Don't sleep on `claude rc` and the Codex equivalent. I've got my sessions running on an always-on computer here in my house and get to use the full Claude Code Desktop app as a thin-client on my MBP and get to continue sessions on my iPad now too.

I was a couple hundred miles away, sleeping in a tent. Best guess is one of our dogs triggered this. @eightsleep continues to have one of my favorite products to use with the absolute worst software product. If your AI can’t tell things might be off with those numbers, why the fuck are you even using AI? Why does any of this exist? Just let me change the temperature of my bed.

Whenever you see people saying wild shit on here, remember that humans invented the idea of hallucinating facts. It’s called lying.

Out here spinning up VPS's and running commands I have no understanding of like it's 2005.

I've been working on describing how I've been building new things with LLMs — loosely based off @rjs shaping approach. I call it my product builder. It works really well for me. github.com/kneath/product-bu…

There's a discontinuity right now in how people are experiencing this whole AI-built-software thing. Some of us came to this game to write code. Some of us came to the game to make our computers do weird stuff. Neither are right or wrong (you need both to build a successful commercial enterprise), but for a couple of decades we've been on the same team out of necessity — even when it didn't need to be a commercial thing. Now we kind of don't need each other, but we're still in the same room.

As we all become inundated with Anthropic’s PR machine ramping up, it is worth remembering that we have almost no ability to define intelligence, consciousness, or free will. For anyone. Or anything. Read some Descartes, get into psychedelics. Enjoy the ride.

Another round of PR madness (the Dawkins thing) and a month since the digital god Mythos was going to end humanity. Could it be that Mythos is just a new, better model? A much more sophisticated tool from a company working hard to build tools?

I really enjoyed Search Engine's take on what it means to "replace" drivers with AI. Happy to see other people in the world who love context and difficult problems. I get frustrated with so much talk about AI "replacing" humans because we've been doing that for centuries (the lamplighters!) and we've never reconciled what "jobs" mean in our modern capitalist society. Is it in service of real work? Or a social contract so we can pay rent? searchengine.show/are-you-a-…
