Ah yes, true.
New NPR CEO @krmaher says, among other things, that she cringes when she hears the word ā€œcontent.ā€ npr.org/2024/01/24/122603553…

Big news: I’m delighted to announce that I will be taking up the position of CEO of NPR starting in late March. NPR has been a lifelong part of my soundscape, and I credit its reporting with sparking my curiosity that set me onto the path to become the person I am today.

Sadly, it does mean I’ll be stepping down as Web Summit CEO on March 1. I’ve absolutely loved my time with Web Summit. I’ve been bowled over by the team's talent, energy, and frankly -- general good vibes -- and this appreciation has only grown with each passing week.

I will be staying on the board of directors, and will remain on as CEO to deliver our first event in the Middle East, Web Summit Qatar, at the end of February which is looking to be double the size we expected. (P.S., You should come: qatar.websummit.com!)

ā€œAI that benefits all humanityā€ without a single woman or person of color on the OpenAI board. Where have I heard this story before?

I miss my friend Alaa. He has been in arbitrarily detained in Egypt for years for advocating for respect for human rights and democracy. Please help us remind people of the importance of his case:
Today, Alaa's family have filed an urgent appeal with the United Nations. Alaa is arbitrarily detained, in contravention of international law and today's petition requests urgent action from the UN. Please share widely to help. Press release here: freealaa.net/unwgad-urgent-a…

In which @SteveRattner argues working from home is a bad vibe before conceding there is no supporting data, just cranky white dude CEOs, and barely concealed desire to return to pre-organized labor levels of exploitation. nytimes.com/2023/03/22/opini…

Don’t get me wrong. I’m an office person! When I had the choice of working from home versus going to the office, I went in probably 95% of the time. But I ran a remote organization and this sort of grumbling is a failure of empathy and imagination.

Okay last gripe. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE between a remote workforce and a large corporation with many offices. Answer: we zoom from our bedrooms. Anyone who has worked in a company with multiple locations knows that someone somewhere is always remote to you.

So excited to be teaching this Fellowship along with @robreich @krmaher and others at @Stanford. This is the course I wish I could have taken when I was younger. Now these amazing students will share theory and practice of tech policy ā¤ļøā†˜ļø
Meet our inaugural class of Tech Ethics & Policy Summer Fellows! These fellows will work across various government agencies, think tanks, and legislative offices in Washington, D.C. to better understand how the U.S. government enacts tech policy. stanford.io/3ymCPqb

I am giddy to be launching our @collect_intel whitepaper today. It feels like the beginning of the most important work I’ve ever contributed to. And it’s an absurd, extravagant honor to be working on this alongside my dear friends, allies, and intellectual heroes.
Today, we are publishing the Collective Intelligence Project whitepaper, our R&D agenda for transformative tech governance. It is our contribution to what we see as one of the world’s biggest problems. We couldn’t be more excited to share it with you. 1/ cip.org/whitepaper
