James Baldwin spoke to Esquire Magazine in July of 1968, just after the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. — the interview covered the depth of racism in America, race relations, and how to pave a path towards progress.

No police officers have been charged for the murder of Breonna Taylor.
Brett Hankison has been charged with three counts of wanton endangerment — all three charges are because of bullets that went through the wall into a neighboring apartment.

Being a “good listener” is often treated as a characteristic, but it’s actually a skill. With practice it’s an area in which we can all grow.
When you improve your ability to listen to others, you also get better at listening to yourself.
That’s how we spark COLLECTIVE growth.
⚠️ Phrasing Shapes Dialogue ⚠️
Conscious phrasing is important — the ways we discuss issues will determine how those same issues are processed & addressed.

PROACTIVE > REACTIVE
When we think reactively, we’re going to end up with symbolic and temporary solutions, rather than real systematic change.
If we’re able to start addressing justice and racism proactively, we are able to reimagine norms.
Addressing those norms creates change at all levels. We are then able to rebuild our institutions on new foundations that protect & empower people who the current system marginalizes.
If you’re looking for a place to start: Find current grassroots leaders in your area, and lend yourself to their work.
Volunteer your time, financial resources, connections, or whatever you can offer.
