An interesting crop of companies chose by Amazon for their inaugural digital health incubator. Heavy focus on communication and patient interaction - great timing with the human resource pressures on the healthcare system! bit.ly/3D1ebM4

The relative risks say it all! The wild card is still the breakdown by age. With 12-18-year-olds still having the lowest vaccination rates and going back to school soon, it would be helpful to understand if they are also seeing disproportionate cases.

Ontario now has 6 days of data showing cases and hospitalization by vaccine status — so far showing a consistent result. This data needs a pop. adjustment, at minimum, so here's that. (It also very much needs age data, which would most likely widen the pop. adjusted gap.)

Wow! Our local health unit - @RegionofDurham seems to have thrown in the towel on contact tracing - letting parents at our school know of a Covid exposure in a classroom 12 days after it happened. Really?! How is that helpful in preventing spread?

MUST WATCH Dr. Michael Warner walks us through the story of one patient. A woman in her 40s who got Covid. Earlier today he fought to save her life. But before the day ended Covid stole her from us. Please listen to @drmwarner share his anger and heartbreak.

NEW: a common response to reports of hospitals struggling this winter is "it’s no different to a bad flu season!" I’ve tracked down historical data on flu ICU admissions, including winter 2017-18, a record high. Here’s how England’s Covid winter compares to a bad flu season 📹

The most useful form of patience is persistence. Patience implies waiting for things to improve on their own. Persistence implies keeping your head down and continuing to work when things take longer than you expect.
