Congrats to Cabricanecos construction workers on winning a workplace safety committee at labor body shop Best Super Clean. Thanks to the construction labor provider law this body shop is now also registered with @helloDCWP as "BSC Services" which brings transparency & disclosures
Exclusive 🚨 Workers organizing with the @LWC_workers secure the state's first workplace safety committee A new rule from the Department of Labor gives workers the power to refuse tasks they deem unsafe My latest for @Documentedny @Report4America documentedny.com/2024/04/23/…

Did you know that the company doing demolition here, Northeast, has a long history of worker exploitation and was also indicted last year by the @ManhattanDA? @MarkLevineNYC @MBPMarkLevine
Big news: A huge vacant office building on 42nd St. is about to be converted to housing. The former Pfizer HQ., off 2nd Av, will become 1,500 apartments. Largest conversion in NYC history. We need many, many more of these. (And have to make sure they include affordable units.)

Local 79 is proud of #Demolicionistas who fought against exploitation while working in the non-union demo industry for Alba Services. These workers were able to apply for the deferred action program of the Biden-Harris Administration #LaborersRising thecity.nyc/2024/01/30/defer…

Six workers have died on projects associated with Joy Construction & its CEO Eli Weiss, including 3 workers killed by jobsite accidents at Eli Weiss & Maddd Equities' project 20 Bruckner Blvd (reported on in 2022 by @DanBarryNYT @karenzraick @nytimes)
Local electeds and faith leaders joined Local 79 members to raise concerns about Joy Construction continuing their work at Edgemere Commons. Joy's history is not in keeping with the values of our community. This is why we need #ConstructionJusticeNYC!

Wherever violence, fear & hatred thrive, working people cannot. We call for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages & delivery of life-saving supplies to the people of Gaza. This call for peace is rooted in the pain that SEIU members are feeling, from the Jewish member concerned for her son’s safety in Tel Aviv, to the Muslim member who immigrated to this country from the Middle East to escape war, to SEIU healthcare workers who see themselves in the healthcare workers in Gaza who have been killed trying to save lives. As a construction trades union representing over 100,000 workers across the United States, including across the Atlanta metro region, we are saddened to see rapid escalation of force towards protestors of the “Cop City” construction project.
