One of the most emotional experiences I had was visiting #Kanchanaburi war cemetery & the adjacent museum in #Thailand. There's a lot of personal stories from the POW's that provided forced labour and died at the hands of the #Japanese. We will be visiting again in January 2022🤞

We visited Kanchanaburi War Cemetery and the adjacent Railway Centre in 2009 a deeply moving experience. Kanchanaburi the main resting place for the victims of the Burma Railway. Located roughly 2 kilometers from the famous Bridge on the River Kwai, it holds the graves of 6,982 Allied prisoners of war, primarily British, Australian, and Dutch soldiers. The remains of American soldiers in Burma were repatriated. x.com/malayasingapore/status…

He was a veteran of the Arctic Convoys - “the Murmansk Run” - that kept the USSR in the war. The British Merchant Navy the RN lost thousands of men to German U-Boats, torpedo aircraft … delivering strategic aid through the frozen wastes in convoys.

Kevin @NolesHistory wrote a very interesting book on the Indian Prisoners of War in Japanese Captivity During #WW2 Learned a lot today from Kevin not only about the Indian POW’s and the INA but the intricacies of academic publishing and Oxford University Press.

Pete Marshall was the raised on a farm in rural Missouri. After joining the USN in 1939 he was stationed in Guam where he was captured & sent to Japan 🇯🇵 living in primitive conditions, starved, beaten with little food or medical supplies from 1941-45. This is Pete’s story …

April 1943 Changi, Singapore. The battalion history describes the departure of the 2/30th Battalion on F Force, seen off by it's commander 'Blackjack' Galleghan. 8 months later 390 men returned to him. Stan Arneil's description of the moment is heartbreaking.
