73% of 25-35 year olds are chronic overthinkers.
Smart people overthink more, and if you’re reading this you’re probably smart.
But you're held back because overthinking paralyzes you and makes you unproductive.
This is part 1 of my 'Overthinking Productivity' series
Where I'll show you you’re not lazy, you’re just overthinking.
(And it’s an easy fix)
-------------------------
Pt 1. Analysis Paralysis
-------------------------
I’m diagnosing you with Analysis Paralysis.
I know I’m right because you’re still reading.
But just to confirm:
You try to be productive all day, you may even feel productive-
But you look back and realize you didn’t get much done.
You spent your time thinking (or worse, talking) about:
-what you’re gonna do
-how you’re gonna do it
-how you’re gonna optimize it
-if you should do something else
But you didn’t do any raw work.
Analysis paralysis is dangerous because it feels productive
But you’re paralyzed.
Take right now:
You probably feel excited and productive because reading this makes you feel like you’re making progress on your goals.
But you’re not.
No action = no forward motion/progress.
Here's how you beat analysis paralysis and what everyone forgets:
You have to take the reps, knowing they won’t be perfect.
There’s no substitute for reps.
Spending more time in analysis paralysis won’t make them any better then if you did them now.
Creative insights happen in the process of doing raw work, when your brain is wrestling with it.
They don’t happen when you’re on the bench.
Progress requires physical output, not mental planning.
Once you get over this emotional illusion (hopefully I got you there), you’re golden.
Take the reps.
Stop overthinking and start doing.
