Deeply saddened to hear about Craig Venter’s passing. I spoke with him recently and he was full of new ideas- restless, forward-leaning, nowhere near done. The best tribute we can give him is to keep building.
I'm sad to learn that J. Craig Venter, a key figure in modern genomics and an inveterate troublemaker, passed away. Craig was very important to the study of human genetics and the biotechnology industry. He also had an impact on my career. The pitch that led @michaelnoer to hire me at Forbes in 2000 was about Venter's company, Celera Genomics, and its work on the mouse genome. Seventeen years, later, Michael edited a cover story I wrote about Venter for Forbes.

Great to see FDA & the administration prioritizing FIH (First in Human) reform. The current IND process is broken & has shifted FIH trials overseas. Countries like Australia have relied on a more flexible, notification-based pathway for years. Now Congress has to act.

Thank you @PeteSessions and @RepHoulahan for your work to support America’s biotech - ensuring our innovation remains the global benchmark.
Our national security depends on our ability to innovate faster and more effectively than our adversaries. I am proud to co-lead the Independence Investment Fund Act with @RepHoulahan, which strengthens America’s strategic position by directing targeted investments into technologies essential for our prosperity and long-term security. This bill ensures that America—not China—sets the pace for the next generation of biotechnology and emerging technologies. sessions.house.gov/2025/12/c…

Amazing work by @Regeneron and shows that clinical development for some / many rare diseases can be done well, generating reliable and interpretable data.
This. Is. What. Makes. Biotech. Great! “Regeneron’s relentless pursuit of science and use of proprietary technologies to improve the lives of people with debilitating and life-threatening diseases, no matter their prevalence.” investor.regeneron.com/news-…

Measles is highly contagious & very serious. A severe case can lead to pneumonia and encephalitis (swelling of the brain), or even death. This doesn't have to happen.   The best way to prevent the spread of measles is to get vaccinated.

Needless tragedy. Totally preventable by keeping up a wall of immunity against measles. No child should get measles in 2025. Child dies from complication of measles contracted years earlier | AP News apnews.com/article/measles-m…

And since the CMO position is open, how about Dr. Rick Pazdur for the role? It would be great to have someone with deep FDA experience, a strong record of accomplishment, and passion for @US_FDA’s mission to help execute needed reforms.

cbsnews.com/news/rfk-jr-halt… No other nation matched what America achieved during the pandemic. We pioneered and delivered life-saving mRNA vaccines at unprecedented speed. It's a historic accomplishment we should celebrate.

I’m often asked what I’d like to see at @US_FDA that doesn’t include statutory or regulatory action. And here is my answer: I’d like to see excellence in review across the agency.

Many review teams have shown regulatory rigor, speed and flexibility aren’t mutually exclusive. One can uphold the highest standards while also being responsive, science driven & innovative. E.g., @FDAOncology & OTP @FDACBER @MartyMakary can scale this mindset across @US_FDA
