What experience do you have of actually growing a business , taking risks , investing and responsibility for employing and paying wages every month etc . My impression is that is that you know nothing that can help us to have an environment to develop & generate Growth ! @iromg

Thank you Lord Sharpe for speaking out about the joint industry letter about the importance of protecting flexible work in hospitality. Flexible work can be a lifeline to young people and working parents. Gov’t must retain genuine flexibility for both employers and workers.

Rachel Reeves has put taxes *up*, and ended up actually raising *less* money. How has she managed that?! It turns out that when you punish people for taking risks, hiring people, or working hard, they're less likely to do those things. Who could have guessed?

The politics of place matters - and for many of us that starts with our local high streets and the neighbourhood restaurants, cafes, hotels and inns as well as pubs which bring light, life and community - so it’s important to get it right. Right focus on high streets from @andy4makerfield but we need bold action for all of hospitality - rates and VAT telegraph.co.uk/politics/202…

Thank you @monicabeharding for raising the high VAT rate hospitality has in the UK. The UK has one of the highest rates of VAT in Europe. A permanent and lower cut to VAT is the best way to stimulate growth and keep prices lower.

🚨 BOOM! Nick Ferrari just put Deputy PM David Lammy on the ropes LIVE on LBC! 🔥 “Would you take the knee for Henry Nowak?” Lammy instantly flustered, stuttering like he’s been caught red-handed: “Uhh… well I, look, I, I, I, I think… to honour what’s that family…” Ferrari cuts through the waffle: “It’s a yes or no, Mr Lammy. Would you take the knee for Henry Nowak?” Lammy, clearly squirming: “I think… no. Because, look, I don’t think the family are asking for symbolism. They’re asking for genuine common sense policing and a reduction in knife crime.” Ferrari pounces: “So you agree, taking the knee is mere symbolism? It was a bit of a charade at times?” Lammy’s brain completely melts: “That was a moment back then when we were still in the pandemic. This is today. This is this particular incident in our country that’s heart-rending.” The pandemic?! What the actual f*ck has COVID got to do with it? 😂 His head had totally gone. Nick Ferrari absolutely broke him on air. This is the same David Lammy who was one of the biggest cheerleaders for BLM, repeatedly defended taking the knee, slammed anyone who questioned it, and pushed the George Floyd narrative hard, yet suddenly it’s all “symbolism” and excuses when it’s a young British lad stabbed to death. Well done, Nick Ferrari 👏 You exposed the hypocrisy and double standards for everyone to see. No wonder people are furious.

Time for @Keir_Starmer , @RachelReevesMP &Co to use their ears and listen to sense ! @iromg
Live on BBC Breakfast this morning from York's Shambles making the case for the UK visitor economy. The summer VAT cut to 5% is a win. But our European competitors charge 10% or less all year round. If we want to compete, we need to match them. And we need to stop cutting the budget of the agency that sells Britain to the world. Tourism is £147 billion and 2.4 million jobs. It's also where young people get their first foot on the career ladder. That's worth investing in. vimeo.com/1198384608?fl=ip&f… #UKTourism #TourismAlliance #BBCBreakfast #VisitorEconomy

Economic growth? The Chancellor has devastated my sector, Hospitality. The UKs 5th biggest sector, the 3rd largest employer. 120,000 job losses since the NI increase. Investment paused across the sector. 2 pub closures a day. Don’t get me started on the Business Rates stealth tax

Good to meet @RosieDuffield1 yesterday at our Parliamentary drop in - she is right that the sector is too highly taxed and this is impacting local jobs, businesses and communities
Thank you to @RosieDuffield1 for asking the Prime Minister if he believes #VATsTheProblem. We need a permanently lower rate of VAT for the entire sector to generate growth, boost jobs and lower prices. The UK's VAT rate for hospitality is one of the highest in Europe. Complete nonsense from Labour’s energy minister. Of course it is better for the environment to use gas piped straight from the North Sea than imported gas shipped thousands of miles from abroad. Why can’t they just admit it?

The key to a #VATCUT is for our sector is the #Hospitality industry uniting under one key campaign, I've been pushing for this for months, indeed when you think back to it actually for years. You can see my parliamentary statement from @RosieDuffield1's #HospitalityRoundtable at the House of Commons below calling (again!) for a united industry. I believe that industry has now united behind @ChefTomKerridge and the vatstheproblem.co.uk campaign and it needed celebrity chefs and the major trade bodies to do it. This is a pivotal moment for the sector and everyone MUST support it - its not a matter of if, but when and united we stand, divided we fall. #VatinlinewithEurope #V #CutVAT #VATsTheProblem

Proud to support the #VATsTheProblem @cheftomkerridge @ukhospitality campaign. Hospitality is not asking for a handout. We’re asking for a level playing field. Across much of Europe, hospitality benefits from a reduced rate of VAT because governments recognise the value the sector brings to jobs, communities, tourism and local economies. In the UK, we remain one of the most heavily taxed hospitality sectors in Europe despite being the country’s third largest employer. Every pub, restaurant, café, hotel and hospitality business creates opportunities for young people, supports local suppliers and helps keep our high streets alive. We create jobs, drive tourism, generate investment and help build thriving communities. A reduction in VAT to European levels isn’t about protecting profits. It’s about protecting jobs, supporting growth and securing the future of an industry that millions of people rely on. If hospitality succeeds, towns succeed. The economy succeeds. The industry needs to come together and make some noise. The more voices we have, the stronger our message. One industry. One voice. One ask. It’s time for the UK to recognise hospitality as the economic powerhouse it is. Please support the campaign, sign the petition and share it with your teams, colleagues, suppliers and customers. #VATInlineWithEurope #Hospitality #SupportHospitality #CutVat
