DAOs will become cybernetic organisms If you want to see where I think DAOs need to get to, check out the discussion I've started on the @TheZKNation forums. I believe that DAOs need to shift away from their current paradigm. We need to move them towards more mechanistic systems where humans are at the edges. What we need is progressive automation. The @zksync governance system is shaping up to be a new way of thinking about DAOs. It moves away from thinking about giving money to people to manage, to giving it to contracts to emit. It calls these TPPs, token programme proposals. This is the first time I've seen the basis for a governance system that I think could move us towards what DAOs, particularly protocol DAOs, need to become. Imagine a system of smart contracts that all do things that bootstrap ecosystem network effects. It might be emitting tokens to liquidity providers, it might be seeding innovation on the network, it might be incentivising communities and cultures to form, but it isn't send this money to a committee who make centralised decisions on how to spend it. As it stands DAOs get overloaded with deliberation at a global consensus level, expecting delegates and token holders to pile through endless complex decisions open scope decisions. The result is everyone gets bored and the only people remaining are the most dedicated forum warriors and professional delegates. The outcome is people offload chunks of treasury to centralised teams to manage. In here, I propose a system that builds a framework for sequences of token programmes, essentially smart contract mechanism lifecycles, with a periodic set of decisions: START (the propsal), STOP, CONTINUE, PAUSE, ITERATE. Simple decisions made from structurally embedded evaluation moments. Feedback loops, not focus groups. Anyway, check the post out.
