Have you ever wondered, what does a podcast librarian do?
It's okay, @weird_work did, too. And luckily, they recorded the conversation for you to hear!

2022! New personal project! More physical book reading, spurred by my local @ltlfreelibrary book finds. This thread (and #LFL52in22) will keep track of my project & my reading throughout the year.
Why more (physical) books? So happy you asked: maayanplaut.com/post/6722182…
Have I read Holes three times this year, once of which was out loud to my friends? Yes. Does that say everything you need to know about how I feel about this book? Probably. I love the interwoven storylines that pop in at exactly the right time! It’s so good! #LFL52in22 38/52
ALT Hardcover book cover of Louis Sachar’s Holes. The side profile of a boy wearing a backwards orange cap in front of a series of perfectly circular holes dug in parched soil.
Me Before You tackles a tough moral question: who is life for? When we live, is it for us, for others, both? I got unexpectedly all caught up in this book, so much so that I didn’t realize I was crying at the end. #LFL52in22 39/52
ALT Paperback book cover of Jojo Moyes’s Me Before You. The title and author’s name are written in a curly script on a bright red background.
Read the whole thing, cause it’s Rose and it’s good and there are eels BUT from the midpoint on is the essay version of the excellent keynote Rose gave at #mpc2022 about endings! It is thoughtful and beautiful and I think about it weekly.
There's a reason I'm on the board of @hubspokeaudio: there have to be alternatives to big podcasting, and there is a cost to being indie that can't be overlooked. H&S folks are working together to think, explore, and model success for independent creators.

Sketch note from @roseveleth’s keynote on endings at #mpc2022
Highlights: can’t go anywhere if you don’t start, but equally important to think about how things end! Doesn’t need to go forever, it is okay to wrap, not from a stressor but just because. It’s brave. Celebrate it!
ALT Hand drawn and written sketch notes from a closing keynote about endings. Standouts: success = sustain itself, make forever (ahh!), how do you know when to end? What are the good reasons to make a show: fun, lucrative, expansive which sums up to Do!! Can we reframe endings as a celebration, a party?
Sketch notes from What Your Hosts for Hire Want You to know with @SkyePillsbury@brokeymcpoverty@tnwhiskeywoman at #mpc2022
Highlights: these ladies are tired, it takes so much energy to host — protect it!, get yourself BOUNDARIES (and a lawyer), know your worth & memorize it.
ALT Hand drawn and written notes from What Your Hosts for Hire Want You to Know. Standouts: do I have the energy for more podcasting? Set your business hours. Protect your energy, you need it. Have faith in yourself. Know your worth and memorize it.
Sketch notes from What All Creators Can Learn from TTRPGs with @El_Silvero@Randwiches@JW_Cartwright@taylordotbiz at #mpc2022
Highlights: TTRPGs are mirroring what’s going on in podcasting, RSS is resistance, indie is everything, game mechanics are the tools to make a show
ALT Hand written and drawn sketch notes from What All Creators can Learn from TTRPGs. Standouts: who gets to play? Anyone can play! Are we having fun? Corporatization is a threat, RSS = resistance. Create your own rules to tell the story you want. Game mechanics are tools to make the show. This isn’t a game, it’s a structural device.
Sketch notes from You Created a Successful Fiction Podcast, Now What? w/ @laurenshippen @MarcSollinger@stereophobe at #mpc2022
Highlights: embrace the limitations (they’re great prompts), vet opportunity for reps/agents who respect your vision, great work comes from great teams
ALT Hand written and drawn sketch notes from You Created A Successful Fiction Podcast, Now what? Standout quotes: story dictates form, make what you want to make, make a podcast first suited to the adult medium, podcasting is not a genre it’s a medium, don’t burn out, great work comes from great teams.
Sketch notes from Stuff No One Tells You About Running a Podcast Company with @SkyePillsbury@AnthonyFrasier@lrmayer@jennyradmast at #mpc2022
Highlights: companies are a state of mind, combat imposter syndrome by just keeping going, find mentors, bring joy and make money.
ALT Hand written and drawn notes from Stuff No One Tells You about Running a Podcast Company. Standout quotes: use corporate work to benefit biz, learn how to break the rule, no one knows what they doing, dream of small empires of silly shit, peer networks and support.
Sketch notes from Is My Audio Job Good? With @shessomickey@HannahSung@TastyKeish at #mpc2022
Highlights: good audio jobs are good jobs, have a personal board of directors, level up by working with the best, make work in scope of humanity.
ALT Hand drawn and written notes from Is My Audio Job Good? Standout phrases: tasting is normal, know your values and priorities, don’t fake the funk, treat workers like humans and make@shows in the scope of humanity, negotiation isn’t undervaluing labor.
ALT Hand written and drawn notes from Everything I Wish Public Radio Had Taught Me. Standout phrases: advocate for yourself. Motivations: mission, good story, greater good, fun! Clear career development. Boundaries (lots). Make something people want to hear.
#mpc2022 kicks off with @shessomickey’s hot takes on ratings/reviews, video and podcasting, Patreon, host read ads, chat shows, and public media. More sketch notes to come!
