So happy to be a recipient of @SheSharpNL's New in Tech scholarship, giving me €1000 to put towards my #UX and #inclusivedesign training. The scholarship exists to support women and genderqueer people taking their first steps in tech. Thank you, SheSharp!
Announcing our New in Tech Scholarship winner - @magicUXlearner!
She's a project manager, facilitator & live artist, wearing many hats working with socially engaged arts charities. She's taking her first steps in tech, studying UX Design with the support of our scholarship.
It's difficult to master some UI/UX design aspects.
Interestingly, there is an easy way to learn them.
Here are 9 UI/UX design GAMES to help you improve as a designer(while having fun):
Announcing our New in Tech Scholarship winner - Christine Belzie!
She's an instructional designer, passionate about making engaging and accessible learning experiences. She'll be using SheSharp’s scholarship to continue her journey in learning how to code 💻
Very reluctantly, I am hanging up my coding gloves (I don't have coding gloves!) for a while. I've started a short design course and have too much on my plate. I'm proud of getting this far:) Day 46 of #100DaysOfCode, and 75% through #freeCodeCamp's Responsive Web Design Cert.👇
I have just started learning UI basics and getting to grips with design software. For me, learning beginners' coding at the exact same time as beginners' UI is quite demanding cognitively, since they are different lenses/perspectives on the same thing!
I miss coding already, and don't want to squander my wee bit of hard-won understanding, and I hope to come back to it. But design's cool too:) Thanks @classcentral@jesslynnrose@freeCodeCamp for running the free Responsive WebDev course and starting me off with code🤩🙏
Day 46 #100DaysOfCode
This morning I took Barbara Oakley's advice (in a @classcentral session) to run what you've learnt through your mind when you wake up, first thing. I remembered so many little conceptual things! My brain was so fresh and...knowledgeable! Thank you Barbara👍
Day 44 #100DaysOfCode
🎃 Practised inline, internal & external CSS
🎃 Investigated CSS border styles
🎃 Reminded myself that the word "margin" does not refer to a border🙄 These little concepts go in and out of my head and I wish they'd just stay there! But that is learning☺️
Day 41 #100DaysOfCode
I'm revising (with a @yu_angela course) to understand the basics of what CSS does.
Quote:
"Essentially everything in your webpage is just a whole bunch of boxes, and the properties of these boxes can be affected by changing the CSS code"
I use captions all the time, because they are convenient. 🤷♀️
Here are some potential reasons you might need captions; keep this list handy and you can correct ableism too!
#a11y
ALT “I need captions”
• Maybe the viewer is deaf
• Maybe the viewer has an ear infection
• Maybe the viewer is in a quiet place and doesn’t have headphones with them
• Maybe the viewer is in a noisy place
• Maybe the speaker has a heavy accent
Day 40 #100DaysOfCode
Tackled an Angela Yu challenge, to do with using #HTML for layout. My head spinning as I put tables within tables within tables within tables within tables (or at least that's how it feels), like an Escher painting.
My made-up CV still making me smile 😎
ALT Screenshot: Code, creating a table.
ALT A CV/resume document.
The top section lists work history: 2017-Present, Cat Herder; 2016-2017 Duck Organiser; 2014-2015 Beetle Liaison.
The next section lists skills: Running around, 5 stars; Diplomacy, 5 stars; Problem solving, 4 stars; Conversing in Quack, 4 stars; Bribing with food, 4 stars; Excel, 3 stars.
Day 39 #100DaysOfCode
Revising on #HTML tables. Practising in a text editor (Atom) for almost the first time, and enjoying that.✨Building a simple table in order to showcase my impressive career history:
ALT A screenshot of code. The code uses the <table>, <tr> and <td> HTML elements to create a simple table.
ALT A screenshot saying "CV" and then a CV in a table format: 2017-Present, Cat Herder; 2016-2017 Duck Organiser; 2014-2016 Beetle Liason.
Day 38 #100DaysOfCode
Sheepishly coming back to coding after 4 days away....sneaking into the room like I was never gone (ahem)...
✅ GRAPPLED with Atom (software issue - sorted now)
✅ Did some of freeCodeCamp's 'Learn CSS Variables by Building a City Skyline'
Ah, life happened, and #100DaysOfCode stopped. (A lot can happen in 3 days! There was a cold hut in the woods, a big cream-coloured moon, a collapsed air mattress, a stirfry, other work catch up, half an episode of Bake Off, a toe that might be broken, and SO much more!)
1/2
Really craving the comfort of doing a bit of coding, which I think is a great sign. A bit stressed trying to catch up with life right now, but hoping...hoping to resume tomorrow or next day 🤞🤞🤞
