lol this is genuinely the craziest thing in Movie Box Office Stuff in decades. Oppenheimer, a three hour biopic released in the middle of the summer, has made *$850 million* goddamn dollars. it's one of the 100 biggest movies ever made (not adjusted for inflation).

There are at least two shots where Oppenheimer is framed as sort of an atomic nucleus: when a bunch of students are orbiting him early on like electrons, and after he “suits up” and huge particles of dust seem to get tossed in all directions, as if he’s part of the chain reaction

the Barbie opening is crazy but the Oppenheimer number here is truly mind boggling. Nolan made a 3-hour movie about friggin Oppenheimer and dropped it in the middle of the summer and people flooded theaters. i can’t even think of a decent comp. Nolan is operating on another level
