NEW: Poll shows that the vast majority of people prefer straightforward single-sex facilities in workplaces and public spaces.
This varies little by age or voting pattern. Politicians who prevaricate over the Supreme Court judgment are out of step with the public.

2 Rejecting the EHRC’s guidance doesn’t change the law. The law stays the same.
3 Parliament can of course change the law. And if this is what you mean, say so—and also how you’d change it. Otherwise this is just posturing.

I've joined more than 120 colleagues in signing this EDM to reject the EHRC Code of Practice.
Trans people deserve love and equality. I’m worried these new rules won't achieve that.
We need a proper debate in Parliament on them, and what they mean for our trans constituents.

Last year, the Lib Dems said that they accepted the ruling and would abide by the rule of law. They have clearly decided that’s a bit boring and are going for a kamikaze pitch for the madder fringes of the Green vote, despite polling consistently showing that the sort of nice middle class people who vote Lib Dem really don’t like self-ID.

Trans people have exactly the same rights as everyone else in this country. But the Liberal Democrats want them to have more rights.
They support men accessing women’s and girls spaces. And yesterday they made clear that they support changing the law to allow this.

I will not stand by while anyone is excluded from participating in public life because there are no facilities they can safely use.
Not now. Not ever.
The Conservative Party would rather pander to a MAGA-style culture war than challenge poor guidance.
The Labour Government wants to pretend there was consensus around the appointment of the new EHRC Chair. There was not.
The Greens didn't show up.
The Liberal Democrats have been clear from the start: the EHRC's guidance must be inclusive, workable and provide clarity, so that nobody is left worried about whether they can safely access public facilities, and no individual, business or service provider is exposed to unnecessary legal risk.
🏳️⚧️ Trans rights are human rights.
