Russians are far worse than any barbarian hordes in history. They just damaged one of the holiest shrines of Ukrainian Orthodoxy, the Dormition Cathedral (Uspensky Sobor), built in 1078, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will never forgive Russia😡Never🤬

Another piece of Ukraine’s cultural heritage targeted by Russia overnight is Kyiv’s Mystetski Arsenal, one of the country’s main contemporary art exhibition spaces that also houses its main literary festival. The building dates back to 1803. The war is not about a piece of land in Donbas. It is about exterminating Ukrainians as a separate people with their own culture, their own past and therefore their own future.
The Dovzhenko film studio in Kyiv is one of the oldest centers of world cinema. Established in 1927, it’s where Dziga Vertov, Sergey Paradzhanov and obviously Oleksandr Dovzhenko shot some of their masterpieces. It survived WWII because its collection was evacuated to Central Asia before the Nazi takeover. This morning, it was hit by Russian missiles. The entire collection of 100,000 costumes going back nearly a century burned down. Other priceless artifacts gone, too. Barbarians sacking Europe’s cultural heritage.

To all Europeans and not only them: to all people who feel they belong to the civilized world, who believe we as humanity have a shared history and have a duty preserve it for the future generations. What Russia is doing now to Ukrainian historical sites is a war of terror against OUR SHARED HERITAGE. This is no different than bombing the Sistine Chapel or Louvre or, by the way, destroying the statues of Buddhas of Bamiyan – which was done by Russia’s good friends. Are you sure you want to allow the spread of this ideology in your country? Do you know to which extent your society is targeted by it? And no, I am not talking about obvious things like “Russians carrying a Russian flag”. It is far more complex than that. Spend some time, check it. Request it from your governments. And remove the seeds of it.

Russia has destroyed Nova Poshta’s most advanced terminal in Kyiv’s Zhuliany district. According to Nova Poshta CEO Yevhen Tafiychuk, it was the company’s first facility equipped with fully automated parcel-sorting technology — a key piece of civilian logistics infrastructure.

Venäjä iski Kiovassa kirkkoihin, kirjastoihin ja historialliseen muistiin. Tämä ei ole uutta. Vuosisatoja Venäjä on purkanut vihansa Ukrainaan ja naapureihinsa väkivaltana ja alistamisena. Länsi on hajanainen ja tarjoaa neuvotteluja. Se näyttää heikkoutta. Tämä isku on Venäjän vastaus.

Russia bombed the Dovzhenko Film Studio in Kyiv overnight, destroying Ukraine's largest costume archive, roughly 100,000 costumes and 3 million clothing items, built up over decades of Ukrainian filmmaking history. Gone. This wasn't incidental. It's part of a pattern of strikes on Ukrainian cultural sites, alongside this week's hit on the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, that target memory and identity, not just infrastructure. I hope the international film community responds loudly. And I'd add this: after four years of full-scale war, some Western festivals are quietly making room again for Russian films and "Russian perspectives." Whatever the intent, gestures toward neutrality in this context don't read as balance, they read as normalization.

We must be morally prepared for the fact that Russia will deliberately try to destroy Ukraine's many ancient monuments and its most important sites of cultural and historical heritage. Today, they desecrated the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra with their violence. They struck the Dovzhenko Film Studio. The Mystetskyi Arsenal art center was damaged, as was a church in Dnipro. Saint Sophia of Kyiv is in danger. So are the ancient landmarks of Kyiv, the thousand-year-old churches of Chernihiv, the museums of the Zaporizhian Sich, and the historic treasures of Lviv. Since fascist Russia is somehow unable to defeat the Ukrainian army, and its missile terror against civilians is failing to produce results, the mighty and invincible Russia will now bravely wage war against historic churches with even greater ferocity.

In one night Russian military targeted: 1) Kharkiv Art Museum 2) Dovzhenko Film Studio in Kyiv, historical costume collection 3) Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a sacred site, 11th century. Double tap killed 5 firefighters in Kharkiv. The pattern shows a plan: culture was the main target.

NOOOOOO! Dormition Cathedral of Kyiv‑Pechersk Lavra — a UNESCO World Heritage site and priceless cultural landmark — has been struck and is burning. The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra was founded in 1051 AD during the golden age of Kyivan Rus'. It is historically important because it served as the cradle of East Slavic Orthodoxy, a center for early literacy and chronicle-writing, and a premier medical and cultural hub for Eastern Europe. It houses Ukraine’s oldest historical records. Nestor the Chronicler, famous Lavra monk, wrote Primary Chronicle here in the early 12th century, which is the foundational historical text for history of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia. Destroying this is literally destroying historical records and evidence.

Russia destroying the Dorminition Cathedral of the Kyiv Cave Monastry is the continuation of a Bolshevik tradition of destroying what they can not have or conquer ideologically Russia can not have Lavra, Kyiv, Ukraine. Hence, it strives to destroy all of it.

The only comparison that comes even close is the destruction of the Buddhas of Bamiyan by the Taliban in 2001. Those statues predated Islam, and were destroyed by Islamic extremists. Pechersk Lavra predates russia, and now russia attacked it with missiles.

Destruction is russian culture. Terrorism is russian culture. Barbarism is russian culture. Remember Pechersk Lavra the next time someone talks to you about the "great russian culture". Europe needs to do so much more for Ukraine while there still is something to save.
