My Top Books for July 2024.
After the Fire by Charlotte Rixon.
The Coin by Yasmin Zaher.
The Truths We Hold by Kamala Harris. (Proving once and for all that I have a book for every occasion)
Breakwater by Katriona Chapman.
We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman.
We All Want Impossible Things by Catherine Newman. A woman helps her best friend battling cancer in the final month of her life. As I've been there and got the t-shirt, so maybe this hit too close to home, but there were too many things that I thought, "That would never happen."
"Breakwater" by Katriona Chapman. A graphic novel about the workers of a Brighton cinema. This is a beautifully told story touching on lost ambition, mental health, and the drudgery of work. A great example of a genre I adore that doesn't get nearly enough love.
"The Truths We Hold" by Kamala Harris. Proving once and for all that I have a book for every occasion, after Biden dropped out and she got the nod, I unearthed this book from one of my many TBR piles. She's an inspiration. (For fans of democracy and the future.)
"The Coin" by Yasmin Zaher. For fans of "My Year of Rest and Relaxation" (not exactly the same story, but same vibes) A rich Palestinian woman navigates life in New York City while she battles money problems and mental health issues while looking for love and fulfilment.
"After the Fire" by Charlotte Rixon. For fans of "One Day"-- the history of a friendship and love affair that was forged in a disaster in the first term of uni. Does a great job of showing the struggles and successes of fresh adulthood. By @charduck (Read for @LoveReadinguk)
The London 2012 Olympics were the best of London, and the Opening Ceremony kicked it all off with excitement, stunning visuals & ace music. 12 years ago! (I will always stop and watch clips from it because I want that feeling it created to be injected into my veins.)
