Good news for all the Java haters. 🎉 We are finally creating a Java-free zone. A sacred space. A place of peace. Somewhere the words "NullPointerException" and "verbose boilerplate" can never reach you. A world where nothing Java touches lives. Where the old, legacy, cranky, shouty, preachy, opinionated language is finally put to rest. We are doing it. It's happening. But before we do - Out of respect. Out of decency. Maybe a little bit out of guilt — we thought it was only right that we sit down, take a deep breath, and acknowledge the tiny, minuscule, barely-worth-mentioning contributions Java has made to our daily lives before we wave it goodbye forever. You know. The little things. Like... your Android phone. Your banking app. Google. LinkedIn (yes, this very app you're reading this on). Netflix. Amazon. The ATM that gave you cash this morning. The hospital systems keeping people alive. The satellites orbiting the earth. All powered by Java. But that's beside the point. Small things, really. So this Tuesday, before we proceed with the grand Java funeral, Naija Java User Group invites you to one last session — a final farewell, if you will — where the brilliant Glory Usen Anwana will walk us through just how little Java has done for the world we live in. ⚡ Lightning Talks — Java in Everyday Life: How It Powers What We Use Daily 🎤 Speaker: Glory Usen Anwana — Software Engineer @ Orbit Tech Company 📅 Date: Tuesday, 24th March ⏰ Time: 8:30 – 9:30 PM WAT 📍 Venue: Google Meet (Free & Online) 🔗 Register: luma.com/co3cs492 Come with your Java hate. Leave with... well, we'll see. Tag your fellow Java haters and Java Lovers. They need this closure. 👇 Proudly supported by JetBrains. #NaijaJUG #Java #LightningTalks #TechNigeria #JavaDeveloper #SoftwareEngineering #NigerianDevelopers #JetBrains #LearnJava #JavaHaters

Is your database a “bottleneck” or a “backbone”? 🇳🇬 As Nigerian enterprises scale to serve millions of users, connection storms, slow queries, and database contention have quietly become some of the biggest threats to system reliability and performance. The Naija Java User Group (Naija JUG) is excited to host Rogério Robetti, founder of Open J Proxy (OJP), for our February Monthly Session! 🚀 🎤 Topic: Proxy Power: Boosting Java App Performance with Open J Proxy. Open J Proxy acts as a bodyguard for relational databases by operating as a Layer 7 proxy between Java applications and the database layer. In this session, you’ll learn how OJP enables: ✅ Centralized connection pooling ✅ Built-in backpressure during traffic spikes ✅ Isolation of slow queries from critical transactions ✅ Better JDBC scalability for high-traffic Java systems If you work on fintech platforms, core banking systems, payment infrastructure, or large-scale Java backends, this session is highly recommended. 📅 Date: Saturday, 21st February 🕒 Time: 8:00 – 9:30 PM (WAT) 📍 Venue: Google Meet 🔗 Register here: luma.com/uzafrqkx Let’s build faster, safer, and more resilient Java systems for Nigeria and Africa. 🇳🇬 #Java #NigeriaTech #OpenSource #OJP #Microservices #SoftwareEngineering #FintechNigeria #NaijaJava #DatabaseArchitecture #Paystack #Flutterwave #Moniepoint #Interswitch #Andela #Kuda #AccessBank #ZenithBank #GTCO #FirstBank #UBA #StanbicIBTC #Opay #PalmPay #Remita #MTNNigeria #AirtelNigeria #Globacom #SystemSpecs #Carbon #FairMoney @RogerioRobetti @therealdanvega @dashaun @starbuxman @DThompsonDev

NaijaJUG — Saturday Session The community asked, and we listened. This year, we are kicking off our weekly DSA (Data Structures & Algorithms) classes, and it all begins this Saturday with our first topic: Big O Analysis During these weekly sessions, we’ll build up our algorithmic thinking, understand how to evaluate performance, and prepare for real technical interview expectations using practical problem-solving and consistency. This is just our starting point. More tracks will follow — including System Design and other advanced topics — but we’re opening with DSA to establish strong engineering fundamentals. Hello Devs 👋, Have you ever wondered how a Core Banking Application (CBA) really works? Or how robust financial systems are engineered behind the scenes? Maybe you’ve tried building your own financial solution and got stuck thinking: “Something is definitely missing, this cannot be right ” 🤔🤔 Well, this Lightning Session on December 9 will set you back on the right track Topic: Engineering Reliable Payment Flows in Java: Precision, Idempotency & Security What to Expect Bad news? 😅 You might want to start that project from scratch. Good news? It’ll be worth it. This session will give you a solid overview of how to think when building a financial system, covering precision, predictability, reliability, and security. Financial solutions are complex, and being a senior engineer doesn’t automatically mean you can build one (Robust eCommerce? YES, CBA? hmmm). But we keep learning. And at NaijaJUG, this is what we do consistently. Remember: “The act of showing up beats talent.” Come, sit, learn, and grow from real-world experience. Register here: luma.com/b7ja2yy7 Time: 8:30pm to 9:30pm See you on Tuesday !!! @dashaun @therealdanvega @segun_osiki @mtn @myaccessbank @FirstBankngr
