This may seem overly critical to some, but why do studios—especially one like this that’s netted over $400 mil in revenue and created their own VR mode in-studio—outsource their VR titles?
The graphics look cartoonish, even compared to Payday 2, which came out in 2013. If you’re prioritizing standalone, you could still bring that level of fidelity/design to it. I think standalone can handle 13-year-old visuals.
This just looks like your typical modern-day canned standalone consumer slop, instead of just bringing Payday 2 to VR with a standalone option. Looks like something Meta would cancel three days in.
I know, I know, you’re gonna say “it’s too early to judge!” but I really can’t stand this design trend. It never bodes well for a game, and this looks as if it’s going to be just another continuation of it.
I just don’t understand why it’s so hard to bring the 2013 game to standalone, rather than creating a whole new game that looks as if it was catered to normie standalone users with PCVR as an obvious afterthought. Bit of a rant, sure, but this rant is really more about the process of outsourcing.
Just put the already successful/pedigreed game in the headset instead of taking a gamble on an already shaky market. It’s like trying to recreate the wheel, but making it square. 😑
These are just my first impressions obviously, but based on history, I don’t have high hopes for this one’s success. As always, I’m happy if my criticisms are proven unfounded.
