BREAKING: A Russian scientist who opposed Putin’s war, fled Russia & found work at Harvard was detained at Logan Airport returning from a French academic conference and has been sent to an immigration detention center in Louisiana for deportation to Russia currenttime.tv/a/rossiynka-s…

Kseniia Petrova was arrested after she failed to declare biological specimens (frog embryos) in her luggage. If she is deported, she will be sent to France, not Russia. thecrimson.com/article/2025/3…

I came here as a refugee from the collapsing USSR in 1991. Three decades later, I played a small part in welcoming refugees from Ukraine to the US. Their status is about to be revoked. The cities they fled are occupied. Will they be deported into the hands of murderers?

Trump‘s call with Putin makes no mention of the fact that Russia started this unprovoked invasion and that Putin continues it every day and could end the killing at any time. Putin is a war criminal, a mass murderer still on the loose. Normalizing him is abhorrent.

Quick thread on how events in Syria affect Russian operations in Africa. First, Syria is the key logistics hub for military supplies, rotations etc. If Russia cannot keep its bases in Syria, what could replace them? (1/n)

Worth going back and revisiting the enormous effort Russia expended in air power, diplomacy, intelligence, money and influence and information operations when it took Aleppo in 2015/16. The vilification of rescue workers and journalists; the platforming and amplification of losers and cranks as regional experts; the spearphishing sprees; etc. etc. All that's come undone in just 48 hours.
Fucking hell, the rebels are nearing the full capture of Aleppo, the whole of city. At the height of their power in 2015, they’d seized only a portion of the city.

If you are wondering how serious Russia is about any ‘peace deals,’ Alexey Gorinov is serving a 7-year term for merely suggesting that the way to peace is for Russia to withdraw its army from Ukraine. He is currently on a new trial. The sign says "Enough killing, stop the war."
