Today on the blog, we discuss a pathway for the second life of phones through the exploration of “phone cluster computing”, which can directly reduce the environmental footprint of computing by avoiding the need for further raw material extraction. More →goo.gle/4aJe5vO

DiffusionGemma is out 🔥 it's compute-bound so 4x faster compared to other Gemma-4 models (1k tok/s on H100) 💨 also great on coding, generate and iterate on any code from 3D generation to front-end ⤵️

We’ve automated every single thing we can @every with AI agents. And yet there’s way more human work to do than ever. We’ve gone from 4 -> 30 human employees since GPT-3. I wrote a report on the structural reasons: how AI makes expert competence cheap, why that drives up demand for experts, and why the dynamic only intensifies as we approach AGI. Today, we share a breakthrough on the planar unit distance problem, a famous open question first posed by Paul Erdős in 1946. For nearly 80 years, mathematicians believed the best possible solutions looked roughly like square grids. An OpenAI model has now disproved that belief, discovering an entirely new family of constructions that performs better. This marks the first time AI has autonomously solved a prominent open problem central to a field of mathematics.

Hannes Mühleisen just revealed the Next Big Thing for DuckDB at AI Council 2026: Quack, a protocol that turns DuckDB into a client-server database. True to DuckDB's philosophy, Quack is simple and fast. You can set it up in seconds and it delivers high-performance remote access, turning DuckDB into a full-fledged general-purpose database system. We are very excited to see the possibilities Quack will unlock, from serving multiple concurrent writers to creative architectures with several DuckDB processes talking to each other. The ingenuity of our community never ceases to amaze us and we're certain that we'll see many use cases we did not even think of. For now – follow the link in the thread, give it a spin and let us know what you think. Happy quacking!

Day 067, orbit 1036 — As the competitive exams for entry into the French Grandes Écoles began last week, I send all my encouragement – along with a touch of good luck 🍀 – to the taupins (the nickname given to CPGE science students, from the French word for “mole,” a nod to the way they burrow deep into their studies for two years.) May the exam questions be in your favor! To all of you: I’ve been in your shoes, so I know how hard you’ve been working. Keep pushing forward: the finish line is near, and brighter skies lie ahead. For me, it was literal as well as symbolic – @ISAE_officiel taught me to fly and truly gave me wings to aim higher 😉 📸 Sophie Adenot #εpsilon@esa@esaspaceflight@CNES

What if you could drop an agent inside a Python notebook's kernel, with full access to program memory and a reactive execution environment? We're showing exactly that (and more) next week at our community call 👀 April 9 | 12-1 PM PST - details in thread ⬇️

Les 2 méthodes ont leur avantages et inconvénients donc j’ai pris la moyenne des deux 😀 Merci @gro_tsen pour avoir suscité ma curiosité à ce sujet lors des dernières législatives

Apple has been introducing a gaggle of products. The one that is going to go under the radar is its Fusion Architecture, for it could be the underpinning of its future efforts. This is boring on the surface, but bold in reality. om.co/2026/03/03/apple-does-…
