A former colleague reached out last week about an opening at the company he works for. This role would be his boss. He said “I want you to be my leader.” It was the greatest compliment. Job seeking has its ups and downs, but this was a highlight.

Unequivocally, the best part of this “forced slow down” period is connecting with people from my past. More time means intentionally finding time to re-engage. Secondly, people are just so good. All my job activity has been a result of someone making introductions. I’m lucky.

I’m sad to report that I was affected by the SF layoffs last week. I wake up each day with the crushing blow that such a massive part of my life and identity is over, but I’m confident bigger things are ahead.

Today I had a typical Meggie moment. Plumbing company told me over the phone that if I donated 2 canned goods, they’d take $75 off the bill.
After the plumber installed our new toilet, I said “can I give you two canned goods?” He looked at me, bewildered, and said “no?” (1)

I don’t tweet a lot but this is important. If you’re a Pepsi shop vs Coke, you’re not nearly as good as the other restaurant that serves coke. “May I get a Diet Coke?” - “is Pepsi ok?” No. No it is not. What agreement did you make? Who hurt you? Why do you hate your patrons?
