Getting a bit tired of the discussions around career breaks and how they 'look bad.' Burnout looks bad. Being forced to choose between work and caring for family looks bad. Chronic illness looks bad. Jobs shouldn’t be gatekept for people who’ve never had to take a break.

Everyone talks about the student not being good enough but no one about the supervisors massively failing her, deciding AFTER 4 years that her PhD is out of scope. We need senior academics to do better in so many aspects.
