Students really enjoyed the whole day including a visit to Oxford University Museum of Natural History @morethanadodo where we spotted the pillar made of Torquay limestone.

I have a report out this morning with @instituteforgov on why drastic reform of the exam system is the last thing we need. Instead we should move to a new model of incremental improvement in assessment. instituteforgovernment.org.u…

Making the most of the #sunshine to read @kathrine_28 book Disciplinary Literacy. Love the clear Teaching & Learning expectations for teachers & students which also support #coaching.

Impressed by the huge number and very wide range of Cultural Knowledge articles our Torquay Academy staff have written. Well over 300 in just two and a half weeks! Very proud of this achievement.

Very much looking forward to discussing literacy strategy with @Kathrine_28 tomorrow - exciting plans for reading across the curriculum, library usage, disciplinary literacy.

Best experience during a live video lesson so far: sharing an individual Google Doc with Y13 students via Google Classroom and giving live feedback as they complete it individually.

I was particularly struck by the idea that some boys are susceptible to short-term incentives, taking the quick cash available and putting off going to university, with the lack of certainty about getting a career making the expense questionable.

Controversial opinion perhaps, but I shudder every time I see "BTec" rather than "BTEC".

I really don't like the idea of reverting to CAGs, because they are unstandardised, but I don't think there's any other option now, and it's the least worst-case scenario - unless universities can find some way of accepting more of the offers they had made.

No one should have been given a calculated grade U (how can you fail an exam you did not sit?) and the distributions applied to schools should have had percentages rounded up, not down.

And the appeals system should have been in place for schools to use between results being issued to schools (which could have been weeks ago) and results being given to students (on the usual results day).

1) I'm going to try and do a fair and balanced summary thread on what's gone on today with A-levels. It is more complicated than the headlines (as ever) so please bear with me.
