OMG, yes. It’s really awkward.
I love my family, but we have a lot of issues. Life hasn’t been easy for us, and I want to keep trying with my family. But I’m Catholic now—that’s who I am.
I can talk about other things, and we can still have fun, but I can’t do a lot of the same things I used to do with them anymore. I don’t want to be rude, so I try to politely decline.
That’s why I think it may be for the best that I’m not always with them anymore. Even though I love them, I think the distance will be good for us—at least until I’m more confident and firmly grounded in my faith so that I don’t fall back into old habits.
Being the only Catholic in your family is rough.
